08:10 AM ET 09.27 | David Falk, apparently, couldn't help himself. He's back with some more comments and thoughts on the lockout. ... "I would bet a lot of money that if we miss one or two games, we're going to miss the whole season. ... It's my understanding that the owners project if there's no season, they'll lose $1.5 billion and if there's no season the players will lose $2.167 billion in salary, probably another $200 or $300 million more in endorsements." ... Falk was then asked what he thinks he could do if he was able to play mediator. It's a doozy: "I volunteered. I've given both sides very, very specific suggestions on how to get over the hurdle. ... I think that I could make this deal in one day, with either party."

It's as much about the owners versus the owners as it is the owners versus the players. At least ten of the most powerful teams would gladly stay with things as they are. Its the teams losing giant wads of cash that want a change, because they can rarely compete in this system.

When I was a child, and there was a piece of cake to split between my brother and I, one of us was required to cut it and the other would get first choice - lots of incentive to cut it down the centre, or as close as you can. While not exactly a parallel, there is a similar solution to this - arbitration. Let each side propose their best offer, in secret, knowing that there is no second submission, and that one of the two will be accepted. The fairest offer gets picked. In other words, the greediest offer gets refused - plenty of incentive to meet 1/2 way. It's not necessarily the most mature way to handle the situation, but if what they players and owners are saying is true, it's the fastest way to what matters to them and to the fans - an NBA season.

Until the players fold like a house of cards, we won't have a season. Revenue sharing and a hard cap are both coming and the owners at the top abusing the current system and the players selfishly whining and moaning better get used to the idea. The owners will get everything they want because the players are too greedy to realize when to fold an accept a deal. The longer the lockout endures, the more the owners will demand and get. They are counting on the greed and selfish desires of these spoiled players to blind them to the harsh reality of the negotiations.

As clear as it can be put. Too bad the owners and players still haven't learned what you learned as a child, NOTB. Tells us all we need to know about them, doesn't it?
