Pujols envisions one-game playoff

08:14 AM ET 09.27 | With one chance squandered, the Cards turn the page to Tuesday's next best opportunity to catch the Braves. [St. Louis] allowed a 104-loss team to sidestep numerous roundhouse punches while squandering five shutout innings from a hard-pressed bullpen. As the staggering Atlanta Braves offered them a share of their wild-card lead, the Cardinals gave away three outs on the bases, bounced into two double plays and ultimately lost when reliever Octavio Dotel mishandled consecutive bunts after a flared double. ... The math has become as simple as it is frustrating. "It's pretty simple: We have to win these games," first baseman Albert Pujols said. "I'm thinking if we win these games the worst thing is we're playing (a one-game playoff) on Thursday."

Not if you don't beat the lowly Astro's..Red Sox, Braves,Cards and Rays...right now none of them deserve to get in.

Not many teams streaking into the playoffs this season.

Then be the leader you are supposed to be and get that team ready to come out and play

agreed. Braves offense (the lack thereof) is embarrassing. i do believe they are last in the majors in BA with RISP.

Albert, don't worry about that one game playoff...the Braves won't get in your way; they've got Lowe on the mound tonight.

The Cards have been streaking pretty well this month....but they certainly let one get away last night.

The Astros need a guy like Carlos Marmol to help push the Cardinals into the playoffs

Any word on who the next manager may be?

ventura, looks like he has the bull by the horns!!

the cards couldn't put away the lowly astros, the astros its more like a threeple AAA team, if this its the type of baseball the cardinals are thinking to play in the playoffs, it would be much better if this cards don't get in the playoffs, all in all the braves don't deserve to be in the playoffs neither the cards, or any other team, it seems as if all this teams lose the motivation for the game, cards lose against the threeple AAA astros that's should be the biggest and shamefull game for the cards!!

the angels did play with a patch lineup the whole season, to get 86 wins with that type of lineup it shows that mike sciocia play the game with alot heart and passion, regardless what the media says or the owner or even the fans this team has nothing to be ashame, to bring a patch team every day to play with very good opponents like yankees, red sox, tigers, rangers, and soo many good teams it takes alot of patience, alot energy to win this many games with a very poor lineup, halos catcher spot was by far the weakest spot, vernon wells always seems tired and couldn't figureout mike sciocia game plan, my guess its trumbo should move to the outfield, hunter DH, wells at the leftfield, trout, and bourjos should remain playing in the outfield, abreu its gone, can the angels try to hire pujols? or get a lefty starter? who knows what's at there in the 2012 season!!
