Shanahan already on thin ice?

I'm not sure why there would be surprise IF Shanahan is using his recent experience in the job. Wouldn't that be expected by the folks who gave him the job? I'm sure everyone will get on the same sheet of music, but nice to see discipline "let up" later, vs. trying to wrangle it in once the season starts.

This is just stupid..you put a guy in the job to get rid of dirty play and when he does it you start crying? Make up your minds....do you want your star players like Sid dizzy..or do you want dirty play out of the game? You can't have it both ways. Send the message early that dirty hits are going to be dealt with severely and the players will adapt or sit.

Agreed.

This is ridiculous. Shanny has been completely transparent with his decision-making process. He's doing exactly what he was brought in to do, and he's doing it with integrity. The line has been drawn. If you are looking at a guys numbers and you have a chance to divert or let up and you don't, you are going to be suspended. A couple more suspensions and players will start getting the message. The NHL needs to back this guy up if the GM's won't. He's doing a great job so far.

Colon on the other hand just **** the bed again. Seriously. I saw the video. I know what Simmonds said. Do i have a problem with it per se? no not really, it's just words. BUT, i knew the second i found out Colon Campbell was handling that discipline that Simmonds was getting off the hook. Lo and behold.

I think Shanahan's done an outstanding job, thus far - Consistency and transparency. His work is light-years ahead of the muddled, secrecy-shrouded mess the Colon had in place.

I hope he begins to address the on-ice performance of officiating crews as well.

Just as the on ice rule changes were enforced, post lockout, Shanahan is making examples of players in the preseason to try to send a message. He's gotten almost all of the suspensions right though, according to the new rules. Hits from behind where the guy is 2 or 3 feet away from the boards is easily the most dangerous play in the game. I think he's been on point so far.

LMAO. I don't think Shanny is worried about "not lasting long in the job". A certain "veteran executive" has been on the job for far too long. My guess is that veteran executive's next job will be as the chef at a Waffle House.

My sympathies to the clientele at Waffle House.

I don't know about this JF Jacques business ( didn't see it), but I did see a replay of the Jody Shelley hit...and I think that 10 games is exactly the type of suspension that will have players thinking twice in situations where they should definitely know better.

Agreed. There is a definite lack of respect for other players safety in the NHL at times...you run a guy from behind and you're a repeat offender then face the consequences.

the veteran executive is actually Colon trying to get his old job back because he's jealous than Shanny can actually get a few things right.
