08:00 AM ET 09.29 | Who is the next coach to make The Leap? NFL owners and general managers over the past few years have always been intrigued by LSU coach Les Miles, but something about Miles always made them hesitant: They thought he was a goofball. The wacky, Mad Hatter rep made some NFL executives who considered hiring him nervous, I'm told. They weren't certain if he had the maturity to be an NFL head coach, so in the end, they stayed away. That is changing drastically. After interviews with several team executives, it has become clear Miles has vaulted near the top of some lists as the next hottest NFL coaching candidate.

He would be a good add for someone. He's worked in the pros under some damn good coaches.

I could be wrong... but he is no Nick Saban or Bobby "Gutless Coward" Petrino.

Les is more????

An unpredictable guy like Miles dropped into the No Fun League? Bring it on!

September 29, 2011  08:09 AM ET

the guy can put together a defense....

Just make sure he hires someone to watch the play clock.

September 29, 2011  08:13 AM ET

Goofball coach? I've never heard of such a thing.

He could hire Andy Reid to manage his timeouts and challenges for him. Andy will probably be looking for a job next year.

I went with Capital One because I got More Miles. Who wants less miles? What's in your wallet?

New England needs a goofball coach for Ochocinco.

The only way he should / will go to the NFL is via the Pete Carrol route. When the NCAA starts sniffing around his program, and there's a steamy pile behind the locker room doors, he bolts for the next available NFL gig...

September 29, 2011  09:15 AM ET

He is a goofball, can't remember how many time outs he has left and has no idea about clock management! He can recruit however .....

Morning all, maybe Les is better, add some comedy relief to the NFL.

Les better talk w/ Nick Saban and the Head Ball Coach about the transition from college ball to the NFL. Neither had much success on Sundays.

As long as Dan Snyder is an owner anything can happen

September 29, 2011  09:38 AM ET

Make the leap and FAIL!

September 29, 2011  09:41 AM ET

The pros are whole different animal. They are not going for that rah rah ish in the proffesional ranks ask Steve Spurrier..

September 29, 2011  09:46 AM ET

Les Miles? Sounds more like a shady used car salesman than a football coach. But DV8 is right the NFL could use some shaking up. The whole over paid Diva and recycled coach thing is getting stale.

les miles, former special teams coach for the boys, should stay put...bird nest on the ground...besides unlike his current gig, where only he and other sec players get paychecks, in the nfl everyone is getting paid...so no more relative advantage in the nfl...
