08:12 AM ET 09.29 | Jose Reyes pushed his batting average to .337 early Wednesday, then he called it a day. Reyes wasn't making any apologies for bunting and leaving the game early afterward. "I don't care what people say," the shortstop said. "Last year I played seven innings, and in the seventh inning I came out of the game -- the last game. I don't care what people think. I was happy. I discussed it with Terry early." So what was Braun thinking? "I don't think it really matters about what the ethics of it are," Braun said in the Brewers' clubhouse before their game against Pittsburgh. "I respect whatever decision he decided to make. Ultimately he left the door open for me. It's not impossible. I've gotten three hits in a game plenty of times."

Nice to see Braun take the high road on this...he had the opportunity to catch Reyes but could not deliver.
That being said...I still think Reyes should have played more than that one at-bat.

Reyes is truly a selfish POS. Goes to show any team that will sign him to that big contract that he is a selfish player who only cares about personal stats rather then team morale. The Phillies and other playoff bound teams played their guys when they didnt have to. why cant he play one last full game with his team esp for the Mets fans (who i hate..hahaha) who came to see him play one last time in case he leaves the organization...

I have no problem with Reyes bunting for a hit. I do have a problem with him removing himself from the game for the sake of personal achievement. Cheapens the whole accomplishment in my opinion. Otherwise, he's a great player who had a great year.

Meanwhile in the American League, Miggy Cabrera earned his batting title fair and square.

This is the perfect example of the kind of player Reyes is. Completely selfish, putting himself before the team. He is a complete joke.

Not to mention he can't stay on the field for a whole year because he gets hurt too much.

Ryan Braun had all season to catch Jose Reyes, who cares about 2 or 3 at-bats? Besides, Braun knew that he had to go 3 for 4 to win the title and he went 0 for 4. Congrats Jose on winning the Batting Title! You earned it.

Perfect comment. Teddy Ballgame wouldnt sit out with his .400 avg on the line. Jose obviously doesnt have the same size cojones.
Also, Why didnt the Yankees play Gardner (except as a late inning defensive replacement) with the SB lead on the line? Yankees obviously have a very different focus than the Mets this time of year.

Reyes won the batting title over the course of an entire season. He is prone to hamstring injuries and suffered 2 during the season and came back from both. A selfish player, playing for a non contending team, wouldn't have done that TRocco, so you're a dope. Than you state that he put himself in front of the team. This is a team with only 76 wins, playing in a meaningless game. That makes you even a bigger dope. BGDave, you're a dope too for attempting to bring Ted Williams into the comparison. That was 1941. For your edification that was before Internet and Television. Thanks for playing. Big Dogggie, if there was a batting title clause in his contract, do you really think those cheap owners would allow the manager to take him out of the game ? That makes you dope # 3. Great comment Yogi Zen, that pretty much sums it up.

Ehh...non issue. Reyes is a great player who wanted to bolster his resume with a batting title to solidify a big contract. Mets are sitting and the Brewers are still playing. Pretty sure Braun cares more about that then anything else. Mets will be rebuilding for the next few years. Reyes will not be a Met next year. That is of course if they can afford to pay him Pujols-like money, which no doubt he will be getting.
