Kimbrel let emotions ruin September

08:13 AM ET 09.29 | Handing the ball to Craig Kimbrel hadn't been a problem until this month -- capped by the most important meltdown of the season. [Kimbrel], who'd blown two saves this month, blew another by slinging the ball around like a bad point guard. ... [The Braves] had the lead and the best rookie closer ever on the mound, and they lost. If you want to say they choked, nobody will argue. The kid closer all but volunteered the cursed C-word. "You have to bottle up emotions and harness them," Kimbrel said. "I didn't do that today. September's the hardest month of the year, and I let my emotions get to me. Things just started to move too fast, and I couldn't put it together."

The pressure of the situation got to him...simple as that.

Maybe a little too amped....his last pitch on the sac fly was 100 mph. But it shouldn't have had to come down to the last night, they fell apart in the last month and had plenty of opportunities

even though he gave up the tying run, i will not put that loss last night on Kimbrel. any team that hits .178 with RISP the last month of the season doesn't need (or deserve) to go to the playoffs.

Remember when a couple of months ago there were actual discussions taking place on ESPN and MLB Networks about the Braves being better than the Phils?

good luck with the Cards...should be a fun series to watch.

those of us who don't work for a major network knew those discussions were premature and quite foolish. before the AS break, they were actually competing with the Phils....after? hmmm, not so much.

QUOTE(#7):

Probably the same guys that said the Rays would lose 90-100 games.

regardless of the outcomes of those games last night, as a baseball fan, you gotta love the way the regular season ended....lots of 'edge of your seat' drama in EVERY game. these playoffs are gonna be entertaining to say the least.

cant blame dropping an 8 1/2 game lead in a month on one player...this was a team fail...just like the redsox.

I am not bragging. I respect the Braves and always have. But I remember constantly hearing that their pitching staff was equal to or better than the Phils. Tommy Hanson, Tim Hudson, Jair Jurrgens, Derek Lowe, and Brandon Beachy are not as good as Halladay, Hamels, Lee, Worley and Oswalt.

And its not even close.

It was a finish to the regular season you will never see the likes of again.
Hope they do not mess with it by new changes.

QUOTE(#13):

Agree. And never thought Lowe was anything to brag about. Jair held up his end, Tommy and Tim could have been more productive. Still don't have many concerns about next season as far as the pitching goes, like i said we need a bat in the line up that scares the opponent.

JJ held up his end....in the first half. Tommy needs to work on his mechanics imo; i feel that the 'pause' in his arm motion is what caused his injury (or made it worse). Huddy was a gamer, but none of those guys had enough in their arms to make up for the pitiful lack of offense.
agreed about the big bat, but i won't hold my breath. hahaha

you should brag...you put your division rivals out of the playoffs.

Worley definitely has potential, but i can see location being a problem for him. and he should sit down with Roy, Cliff and Cole on a daily basis and take notes about the 'mental' part of being a great pitcher; his frustration was evident last night. was he moved to the 'pen for the playoffs?

ROY should help ease the pain..kid had a great year.

He's a rookie. He will learn from this and be better for it next year.

What I wonder about is did the Braves manager make the right decisions as September went on. He needs to take some responsibility for all of this, too.
