08:08 AM ET 10.03 | The veteran Yankees aren't likely to be drawn into a war of words, but Jose Valverde did offer an invitation. Just minutes after he escaped a furious Yankee rally in the pouring rain to finish off the Tigers' 5-3 win Sunday, closer Jose Valverde was enjoying himself. "It's over," Valverde said of the AL division series now tied at 1-1. "It's over. (Monday night) is the second game. When is the last game, Tuesday? Ok, then Tuesday celebration and we're there." Then Valverde broke into a big laugh. "No, no, I am just kidding," he backtracked. Still, Valverde was confident. With ace Justin Verlander on the mound Monday night in Detroit for Game 3, Valverde was feeling that confidence despite the fact he nearly blew Sunday's victory.

Don't give the Yankmees motivation - don't bury them until you win the series.

We need A-Rod's bat to wake up. Cano and Jete can't carry us by themselves. I smell #28.

Little League World Series Winners Must Be Getting Tons Of **** Right Now
September 2, 2011 |

WILLIAMSPORT, PA???After defeating a Japanese team 2-1 to win the Little League World Series, the 12-year-old champions from Huntington Beach, CA are, without a doubt, up to their ears in ****, sources reported Friday. ???They win the biggest game on the biggest stage???there???s no way they???re leaving the house without wading hip-deep in trim,??? said LLWS color commentator Orel Hershiser, adding that every member of the team is probably getting his own wet right now. ???The second a woman finds out she???s talking to a Little League World Series champ, she gets all flushed and will basically do anything. I???m talking the nastiest of stuff. With all that puss in their faces, I just hope those kids can breathe.??? Current major-league player and former Little League World Series winner Jason Varitek told reporters he got more **** after winning the 1984 championship than at any other point in his life, and said the kids should just enjoy it while it lasts.

The Yankees need to win tonight or they will have thier season riding on AJ Burnett's arm tomorow night.

October 3, 2011  09:37 AM ET

I want some of what Valverde's having...........

October 3, 2011  10:00 AM ET

That is big time stupid. Don't pull that nonsense on a veteran team with a leader like Jeter. And, by the way, Verlander looked pretty human the other night.

He's done that all year against the Yankees - 4.85 ERA.

Funny as hell. That's gotta be the onion.

Whatever happened to "shut up and play"? If I were on a team with some idiot who very nearly blows a big lead and then opens his mouth like that....he'd be done making comments.

If you saw the interview or heard it, he was playing and joking about it.... in hindsight probably shouldn't have said it, nor should dance on the mound as he does almost every time he pitches. Regardless this is the series tonight. If Verlander can get a W (he hasn't pitched great against them) it will be all up to AJ Burnett to save the Yankees season.
