08:14 AM ET 10.04 | Even if Terry Francona doesn't land with the White Sox, that doesn't mean he couldn't land in Chicago. The scenario involves a quick-sequence domino effect that starts with the Cubs landing Red Sox general manager and Francona ally Theo Epstein for their GM vacancy, an effort that could gain significant momentum over the next several days and eventually result in a GM-manager package deal. The Cubs' interest in Epstein, 37, is strong. The biggest question had been whether Epstein would be willing, or allowed, to leave. ... One high-ranking rival executive called [Andrew Friedman] "the best choice" for the Cubs and called Epstein "the safe choice."

Being a Cleveland fan we have learned the true definition of the word "Patience". So we'll wait for him to come to town!!!

The Cubs are a train wreck right now. If Francona had a hard time getting through to the Red Sox players, how's he going to get through to Zambrano and Soriano?

epstein has never won anything in the post-roid era...look elsewhere cubbies...his business model sucks...francona is OK...but would go with steve beuchele out of rangers organization...implement a winning formula...

Tony is his twing brother no one knows about who is the real reason behind all the red sox success in the two world series wins.

I say they hire John Maddon or Jeff Torre. Benny Valentine is too big a jerk.

Snoooooze.

October 4, 2011  09:21 AM ET

Perhaps they meant Tony Montana, he'd bring them to glory. Say hello to my little friend!

October 4, 2011  09:42 AM ET

hell no!!!

October 4, 2011  10:04 AM ET

Please do, they will bring even more expensive free agents that suck just like crawford, drew, lackey, and on & on.

Dusty Baker was on the radio this morning with a good perspective on the Cubs. he pointed out that even though as new manager/gm will come in thinking it's thier first year, to the fans it's year #103 (or whatever it is) and they want to win NOW!

If Theo gets there, Zambrano will be gone faster than a speeding bullet...maybe before Theo leaves, he'll trade for both of those guys and THEN take off...:)

"Thanks" says Red Sox Nation!

oh man, this team is a complete wreck. Gut this thing, just cut the heart out of it...assuming there is one. I'm not sure the Cubbies even have one player that another team would want, they have no tradable comedies (commodities). What the heck would Epstien and Francona do, they'de only make it worse. It would be like adding fuel to the fire. Really, just gut it. Start with a home grown approach and develop talent within the organization. How many kids do they have in the minor leagues? What's the use of a minor league system if all you're going to do is sign free agents?

If we're lucky, Epstein will take Lackey, Jenks, and Crawford with him... JD Drew can be the hitting coach, and Dice-K can be the pitching coach...

Andrew Friedman would be the best choice, no doubt
