Is Doan a Coyote for life, or trade bait?

08:24 AM ET 10.04 | Shane Doan is in the perfect spot ... for trade speculation. A star player in the final year of his contract. An unstable franchise. Already, national publications have speculated on the scenario: [Doan] will be bait at the trade deadline. Not so fast, hockey fans. Coyotes forward Doan said Saturday his goal is to finish his career in Arizona, an idea that has the unequivocal support of General Manager Don Maloney. "Shane is very important to our franchise and we'll do everything humanly possible to keep him," Maloney said. "I've always felt Shane will be with the Coyotes as long as Shane wants to be with the Coyotes. I don't think getting a contract done will be a problem."

The Oilers traded away Gretzky. After that, the term '[insert team name] for life' became more of an oddity than a reality.

The real truth to the story is that his Mrs. doesn't want to leave Arizona!

Is Doan a Coyote for life, or trade bait?

It's better than being Coyote bait.

Nice talk now, but when the trade deadline comes around and someone makes the Yotes an offert they can't refuse, he'll be out the door in a heart beat.

If either side were serious about him being a Coyote for life they would have been working on an extension. Not happening now so he is gonna be gone by the deadline.

And with this, can we conclude Coyote talk for the day? Just trying to avoid the inevitable "when are they moving" convo that needs to be put away for a while. There's legitimate puck being played this week :D

A week where many a dream is dashed Danny :-)

Interesting that you know what time the Leafs are playing at...

I've lived in Canada for a long time Danny.

The Leafs open the season on HNIC, and close the season on HNIC, and fill almost every Saturday night on HNIC.

Let's just call it an educated guess shall we?

I don't think there are any Peter Pucks left in the NHL except for Brian Burke, maybe. He's in a class all by himself since Crazy Mike is no longer a GM.

Crazy Mike....now that could apply to both Mike Milbury and to Mike Keenan. Then again, so do the phrases "I'll ruin your franchise" and "I'll alienate your players..."

But could be worse...you could be stuck in a room with both of them debating ANY issue, with Pierre McGuire. Ugh, I think I just made myself sick with that one....yikes...

October 4, 2011  11:32 AM ET

^^^ Sorry, that should say "with Pierre McGuire doing the play by play"

Keenan is crazy but Milbury is just an idiot.

'arry, the only place they're going this season is into the lottery. They haven't even played a game and everybody in town is saying the team is awful. I know we're usually very, very quick to react and dramatic about it but I don't think there's any hiding the fact that the team they currently have has next to no shot to make the playoffs.

What he said...

So, you're saying HNIC ratings have hit rock bottom? :)
