Time already running out on Wilson

08:20 AM ET 10.05 | Being hired as a head coach is far from a lifetime appointment, and, again, much attention will be paid to Ron Wilson. Never has Wilson begun a season under such scrutiny in his time as Toronto coach, and never has he liked his Leafs lineup more than he does right now. ... "It seems I've always been under heat here, so no matter what we do, there's going to be pressure," said Wilson, after Tuesday's practice. "I'm used to that. Whatever happens, happens." The words may read like he's being flippant, but he's not. In his fourth season coaching the Leafs, he knows better than anyone that failure is no longer an option. His contract is up. So, just about, is his time.

That he still has a job after missing the playoffs four years in a row defies logic. "Time already running out on Wilson"? It ran out long before now. Burkie just has a watch that keeps the time in a different way than the ones we all use. "...failure is no longer an option"? When the heck did it ever become one? 'Yeah, I'll hire you and you can lose as many games as you want. We fill the ACC every night so who cares?'

Sounds like Burkie put a little something extra in the koolaid yesterday.

well put. and not that I am defending Rotten Ronnie, but Burkie sure hasn't put a ton of talent on the roster for Wilson to work with, either.

Well said. What I think Burkie meant with "failure is no longer an option" is that it's become a way of life.

He's only been in the job for three. Are you already casting assumptions on the Leafs season?

True. Although Rotten Ronnie hasn't seen talent for so long he might know what to do with it.

To be frank, if either of them are here next summer I'm setting up protests outside the ACC. I'm saving hope. That somehow, Burke pulls a deal off and actually gets a legit #1 centre. That Lupul isn't a first liner for very long. That Reimer's preseason was just him sweating out the remaining kinks from a long summer. There are bright spots. The defence (regardless of what everyone thinks of Celine) is solid. Liles and Dion both looked like they can put points on the board, and Gardiner is certainly worth a try.

But the forwards, as is, will be the team's downfall and if they don't make the playoffs this year, it's not humanly possible to justify the team keeping anyone in management around.

Sorry, my bad. The article said fourth season and I read four. I'll let father time prove me right about the Leafs season.

Burkie can trade a bunch of picks for Kessel wherever he lands next. That'll help your team in the long run.

He's getting closer Danny.

He picked another 4th line centre yesterday.

Good point. I've bashed Ronnie as much as anybody, but to be honest he is the only coach who has taken the Caps to the Cup Finals..........in '98 when they lost to the Wings. So, when he has a little bit of talent he might win a few? Iblame Burke far more than Wilson. He's the guy who gets the "talent".

Sometimes, even a very bad situation can have a silver lining.

Saw ole Burkie in an interview this morning asking some flaberghasted reporter " Is their a better coach in the league right now then Ron Wilso, i don't think so" Classic !

That guy stinks on ice. Slowest skater I have ever seen. He is good on faceoffs I guess, but that is about it. He stinks so bad he will fit in nicely with the Leafs.
