A frustrated and 'down' Manning emerges

08:04 AM ET 10.06 | Peyton Manning's workout regimen these days includes, at its most strenuous, power walking. Manning, meanwhile, isn't saying much. Which isn't new. He's closed himself off as he's aged; most teammates didn't know that his wife, Ashley, was pregnant until after she delivered twins last March and they read about it in the newspaper. And while in the past he typically responded to text messages quickly, his replies lately have been tardy and terse. ... "I assume it's driving him crazy," says Jim Sorgi, Manning's close friend and former backup. "I texted him a few times. He was down. He doesn't let it show. He keeps his frustrations to himself. But there's a different mojo about him. His texts are short."

I hope he suits up and gets back out there next season. The NFL isn't the same without this guy. But, if his doctor says he's a no go, then he has to think about his future and his family. Truly sad to see one of the best players of all time in this situation.

Something tells me that Peyton already has life after football planned out. Don't look for him to be riding his tractor and throwing footballs to the local high school team

He'll play again but at what cost to his body. I agree that he would make an awesome coach.

He will play in December, his almighty owner all but said so. Oh, I forgot that was right after he had made a statement Manning was done for the year.
I'm still curious how any neuro surgeon or neurologist can clear him to play again. Its not about he ability but the chance of severe permanent injury.
But again with the money involved you can buy anyone off. I know about the competitive spirit and all but with a yound family you wonder, why would you come back? For what? There's nothing to gain. The team is old now and years away from another super bowl and his skills will diminish for sure but then all the top athletes belevie they can defeat father time. Not!

Peyton has had a charmed life, but when he loses or doesn't get his way, he pouts like an child who is used to getting his way all the time. He deserved the Heisman, I admit, but the look on his face when Woodson won it told me all I need to know about him. He's a sore loser. In his case, he finds a way to win because he hates losing so much, and that makes him a great QB, but it probably makes him a pretty miserable person to be around. It's shocking to me that nobody on the team knew his wife was pregnant. It's not like she was some random girlfriend he wasn't committed to....this was his wife, and he didn't tell his teammates? I'm sure most of us would trade places with him, but I don't think he has a lot of real friends.

if he already had his life planned out he wouldnt be in a state of depression right now.
obviously he would be down and dejected about not playing in general and about the injury but to close out team mates and friends is a sure sign of depression.
