Sarver taking a beating in press

08:08 AM ET 10.06 | It's tough these days being Suns Managing Partner Robert Sarver. [Sarver], like all owners, has agreed to not talk about the NBA's collective bargaining agreement negotiations or his role in it as a member of the owners' labor relations board. That stipulation must be killing him because the media coverage of the labor talks sure has. Sarver is taking a beatdown from the media. There was one espn.com story that referred to him as "a dove" in negotiations. The rest of the reporting and analysis has been bird droppings on his reputation. ... Once he is able to publicly defend himself, Sarver and the Suns front office will have to repair some perceptions with players and agents, particularly when it comes to free agency.

My thoughts are the same. He's a new owner and he's bitching about how thing are. How many draft picks did he sale just to get the money? How many good players did he let walk away just to save money? How many bad players does he have on bad contracts?
To me he's one of those owners that don't want to spend money to win. But he wants other people to save him and stop him from spending. Sun fans your team is screwed until this guy sales the team.

If it wasn't for Sarver and Dan Gilbert we'd have a deal by now. Them two owners along with Sterlin and Ted Leonsis are racist pigs that hate the notion of running a business where young black men make a higher percentage of BRI than they do. It's sad to see such people in our generation. Hopefully once they die out we won't have such closed minded mofo's around.
I was so bored lastnight I had to watch the WNBA finals. I guess women can make a deal; men can't...

Guess it wasn't going to take long for some idiot to start using the race card. Good call lost soul. The Klan is alive and well but it's run by minorities now.

F you. Have you heard the words them owners utter in public? Of course they are racist. They've done their best to prove that... man cut it out. I blame Stern for selling teams to such owners. It's like selling nuclear technology to our enemies... them owners aren't friends of the league.. they're in it to make money, more money.... greed money. They want to treat the players like employees.. not partners... it's sickening... I'm totally disgusted by their acts and mad at the generation I live in for haboring these folks for mother earth to feed....

Being an owner in the NBA is about making money just like any other business and yes the players are employees and yes they are paid really well.

It's not about money here. It's about respect. Lets say the NBA goes communist and pays each player a million dollars regardless of talent level and production, that's a lot of money for most of these players that come from poor families and have no high school diplomat. In other words being a millionairre is great blessing in itself.
But here's the problem. If for every million a player gets an owner gets 5 million is that fair? The plantation and illegal immigrants are one in the same when it comes to labor but these are real citizens... you can cheat them like that!!!... see what's happening on wall street these days?... these dumb blind owners need to wake up... slavery ended a very long time ago!

To answer JGB, the local community has no love at all for Sarver. The team has been unstable trying to deal with constant changes in philosophy and direction ever since he took over. In fact, a good number of people around here hate him as an owner.
However, as a person he is not a bad guy. And I have not heard anything he has said or done promoting racism. The bottom line is that this is all about money. The players and owners alike are just trying to maximize their own profit. Do you think the best players would hesitate to take higher ceilings on max deals at the expense of lesser players on the roster (hint - there is a reason why the salary ceiling and floor had to be created). The same sentiment exists between large and small market teams. I think any comments about one side trying to abuse the other is silly given that we have no data from which to base an argument. All we have is a bunch of rich greedy people arguing with a bunch of rich greedy people over money.

Wow, you really have no idea how a business is run. The comparison to slavery is so ridiculous and off base it's almost laughable, but ignorance is never really that funny. Every business gives the owner the ability to make most of the money because they are investing their money and assuming the risk. What about all of the players like Allan Houston who get huge contracts and don't perform, are they "slaves"? There is no other business where these players could make any money even approaching this. My company makes a lot of money off of me compared to my salary and I am happy to have a job. That being said I live in Phoenix and Sarver is a terrible owner.

I live in Phoenix and Sarver is the most hated man in town. He bought the team high and is now losing money so he's trying to squeeze for more revenue, because he doesn't like his "return on revenue". This is from a banker who was bailed out in 08-09 from TARP and the FED. He is a jerk, but he's not a racist. He's never said one racist thing as far as I can remember.

They are owners looking to make a profit and if the players don't like it then start another league and go play in it. You whine about the owners wanting to make money but aren't the players trying to do the same? You want to talk about greedy, players want to redo their contracts if they outplay them but don't want to give it back if they don't perform. They get injured and collect a ton of money for doing nothing. The owners created this mess and now their correcting it, nothing more, nothing less. To use the race card in this argument just goes to show how ignorant minorities are today of what real racism is. Where's your hood lost soul?

Let's get real. What value do owners do to bring money to basketball? Nothing! All they do is lay back and collect checks so no way in hell should they make more money or split with the players. We pay to see the players perform... that's what brings in the money!
