Walton doubts Bulls ability

Count Bill Walton among those who doubt the Bulls. The ESPN analyst, part of the national broadcast of the Bulls' lopsided loss Friday at Boston, concluded on the air that this season ''is not going to turn around'' for general manager John Paxson's team. ''I'm not going to debate the analysts all around the country on the state of our team,'' Paxson said Saturday. Paxson had indicated a couple of weeks back that his patience for the Bulls to get going was limited. Yet Saturday, he said he wasn't working on any trade deadline.

I'm not one to put a lot of weight on Walton's rants. But he may have a point this time. I can't see any signs of improvement in this team.

i dont know whats goin on, the bulls are supposed to be an even better team than last year??s. wallace is starting to look his age, hinrich is turnung the ball over like theres no tomorrow, an b gordon cant hit the ocean with a beachball. a change has to be made, now!!! before its too late

Another great example of Bill Walton's keen ability to express the "obvious"... I mean, his basketball intelligence.

December 23, 2007  12:12 PM ET

I dunno what's up with those guys, but the Laker faithful are happy they dont have to put up with those question marks while Kobe is guiding the Bulls! Hinrich looks like a different player, last year he was loose and got the ball to the open man, this year he looks tight and constricted all the time, making bad decisions. Gordon cant score to save his life, he needs to get in the gym and shoot 1,000 shots a day like Caron Butler did (In SI Magazine), maybe that will help his cause. Wallace is old and shows it at times, Tyrus isnt devoloping like hoped, Noah isnt getting much of a chance b/c they are trying to render wallace/thomas in the right direction again. all in all, TOO MANY HOLES!

Bill Paxson said he wouldn't, then didn't trade his roster for Kobe Bryant. For that, I say: Thank you Mr. Paxson!

Thankfully there is a mute button for when he starts talking.

Blah blah blah

December 23, 2007  03:02 PM ET

You could point to multiple factors for the Bull's lackluster season, but I'm gonna point to 2 big factors. Ben Wallace and Kirk Hinrich. Ben Wallace averaged less than 2 points last week and hasn't scored more than 4 points in a game since Dec. 11. His rebounding has also floundered, not having more than 5 rebounds since Dec 8th. I don't care that he's great for defense, he's gotta have some production somewhere.

Kirk, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. He started the season bad, but he seems to be resurging lately. He seems to have found whatever it is he lost, but before last week he looked completely lost out there.

Because we all know that what Bill Walton says is the absolute truth, right? I tell ya, he's the next Sylvia Brown.

December 23, 2007  07:10 PM ET

Bill Walton needs to seriously ****,hes got to realize eras have changed, and to get in the 2000's,this isnt the 70's or 80's anymore

December 23, 2007  08:10 PM ET

Although some would say that Walton has a big mouth, or that Walton's era has passed, it really doesn't take a 2-time NBA Champion like Walton to point out the obvious.

This Bulls team is very close to saying "Maybe next year". This season is almost lost. Can anyone imagining this current group going .600 (or more) the rest of the season just to be able to make the playoffs?

Walton can, and has stated the obvious. Can Paxson see the obvious and do something about it?

December 23, 2007  08:15 PM ET

I would too. They look like they don't care anymore (ecspecially Scott Skiles)

December 23, 2007  08:35 PM ET

walton is the most useless uninformed "analyst" there is i feel like turning games off just because of him, being an BA great doesn't mean greatness off court, the bulls will not match last season but they will pick it up, heinrich, gordon, and deng, will not play at this low level all season

December 24, 2007  12:11 AM ET

Bill Walton is just another Willy Wonko duche bag who sucked when he played. For him to evaluate the Bulls & come to the conclusion that the season is over is ridiculous. I mean, I said years ago that there is NO WAY anyone would employ this man-bear-pig as a basket ball anouncer/analyst. Yet, this walking abortion still is on the air. Hell, if i was wrong about that...then the Bulls can still win the east.

December 24, 2007  10:23 AM ET

I used to hate Walton, but I've grown to appreciate his candor and his outragous statements. I love it when the analyst he's working with get's shocked by his statements and they get into a little back and forth during these sometimes boring games. The hall of famer is probably just bored and is just trying to liven things up.

December 24, 2007  10:32 AM ET

As far as Walton having to get out of the 70's, 80's, & 90's... Why should he? That is when basketball was awesome to watch. Now the only reason to watch a game is to see individual players like Kobe, Nash, etc. play. The current NBA is all blingelly bling, lacks substance, and has horrilbe ratings to prove it.

December 24, 2007  03:09 PM ET

Looks like a good call by Walton that team is bad and now they are going to have a substitute teacher for the rest of the season to?

Actually Skiles is a major **** so the team might start playing harder and better to spite him that would be funny.

December 24, 2007  05:06 PM ET

Well, Skiles DID get the axe today. Great timing by the Grinch Paxson. He ought to go next.
