Real reason why Dolphins didn't sign Garrard?

08:38 AM ET 10.08 | I am hearing from multiple team sources that, in fact, the reason Garrard is not on the Dolphins today has nothing to do with money. I'm told that if Garrard wanted his base salary guaranteed, the Dolphins would have done that. I'm told that although reports are Garrard would have played for $1 million, the club might have gone to three times that amount and "probably" paid it. I'm told that the reason the Dolphins didn't get Garrard is, in fact, because he simply didn't feel like playing right now. Garrard apparently talked to the team and showed no great desire to play. He is, according to this version of the story, quite content sitting out this season, spending time with his family, and hitting free agency next March.

If you're a QB do you sign with a team team that is positioning itself to draft Andrew Luck?

Good for him. If you don't need the money it can't be a bad thing to spend time with your family. Plus...if he had played this year and tried to learn a new offense he may have stunk worse than in Jax and his demand would have been lower next year. This way...everybody forgets he was just an average QB and he may end up getting a better contract next year.

Do you mean like Pittsburgh , Chicago, & Philadelphia. Just to name a few. The quarterbacks from these teams would probably agree with your assessment. Give it a couple more weeks and the phone will be ringing off the hook.

I can't blame him but I am a little shocked since he stated he wanted to go to a team where he could start. Ofcourse playing for the FINS takes years off your career. Especially if your the QB.

They didn't sign Garrard because they don't want to run the chance of winning a game.

I would think his chances of signing with someone are worse after the season is over.

He couldn't win a backup job in Jacksonville. It shows you how far this guy has fallen. I think he's afraid to go to a workout and have them say, "Don't call us, we'll call you."

If this is true. good for him. Spending time with family is something you can't get back later. Plus maybe his back is hurting and he's not physically able right now, again good for him for making a wise decision.

Who can blame him? Miami is going nowhere under Sparano and the reality is that whomever does get the starting job is just keeping the seat warm until the new regime takes over and cleans house.
I'm not going to hold Garrard's parting with Jacksonville against him. While nobody will ever mistake him for the second coming of Johnny U, it was my understanding that Garrard was let go as a dollars and cents move.

Smart move on his part. Only one team will get Andrew Luck next year, other 2 teams will get the other 2 really QBs whose names I don't know, and like another 7 teams will need a qb desperately, he will be able to command more money if he gets in shape this year.
