08:21 AM ET 10.10 | The Big East's last stand? With the defections of Syracuse and Pittsburgh to the Atlantic Coast Conference, with TCU, who had been scheduled to join the league next season as a full member moving to the Big 12, and with Louisville apparently ready to join the Horned Frogs in moving to the Big 12, the Big East options seemed limited. But that may change. According to sources in the Big East, the conference is looking at a plan which will invite Navy, Air Force and Boise State into the league as members in football only as well as Temple and Central Florida as members in all sports. The possibility of adding Villanova as the 12th team in football is also being discussed.

That should drop the basketball quality immediately.

And why leave out Army?

Probably because Army did the football conference experiment earlier with C-USA, and backed out. I guess Big East football decided not to bother, knowing the USMA wouldn't bite.

Just how is a team in the Pacific Time Zone with a stadium of 35000 seats a good fit in the Big East?

You are thinking too logically. None of this conference <hit is logical IMHO.

Just how was TCU either? Things are crazy right now, over money.

For the BE, its about trying to stay AQ. With TCU and Pitt out, BSU is about the only team that would give them a rating high enough to stay AQ.

Desperate times/Desperate measures
