Ovechkin was never fat, but now he's a beast

08:35 AM ET 10.10 | Maybe Alex Ovechkin is down some weight, but he's no less tight-lipped about it. Maybe it was the new equipment deal he signed with Bauer in the offseason. Maybe it was his haircut. Either way, he actually looked thinner. "I come to training camp much better shape," he finally admitted. "It's kind of situation where you realize you have to take step forward instead of step back." Ted Leonsis must be glad to hear that. ... "A couple of things happened this year," Leonsis said of Ovi making good on his promise. "I think he took to heart this whole thing about, 'Alex is fat.' Alex was never fat. But Alex is now a beast. He's big, he's fast and he reshaped his body again."

Didn't we have a similar story a couple of weeks back? Surely the interns could've find something new to talk about after every team's played a couple of games.

Thank God. Alex has always been a wimp, fat, out-of-shape, weak, a poor skater and terrified to give or take a hit. Maybe this is the year he can finally learn to play. No Sid thread today? I thought that was a legal requirement.

If his scoring drops, he may want to start back on the donuts and pizza again ;)

Mario will come out and tell you his offseason consisted of french fries and beer. Getting into shape is what training camp was for. Ovie was just kicking it old school is all.

Mario was a big fan of the Big Mac. As long as he turns it on for the season, no one is going to care what he consumes in the Summer.

Nothing wrong with a layer of fat over top a six pack of muscles.

It's not having the six pack of muscles to begin with that's a problem.

He just want to keep the wonders of a Kapusta and Pierogy diet a secret!

Both Mario and Jagr had J-Lo butt - It was like they had a Honda Civic, strapped to their lower back. Helped them protect the puck that much better.

Not sure if that was a gay quip or a shot at the intestinal fortitude of Flyers fans. Either way, is this a NBA thread?
