Clemens videotapes denial

Roger Clemens continued his campaign to fight allegations that he used performance-enhancing drugs, releasing a video Sunday in which he said he had never used steroids or human growth hormone. The video, which shows Clemens in front of a banner that says "Rocket 300 Wins," was released on his foundation's Web site and on YouTube. "Let me be clear; the answer is no," Clemens says in the video, which lasts 1 minute 48 seconds and appears to be a collection of four clips. "I did not use steroids or human growth hormone, and I've never done so."

McNamee has so far been proven reliable with Dave Segui and Andy Pettittie's admissions. I don't believe it would be in his best interest to implicate someone as high-profile as Clemens if it were not true. He could have left it at Pettittie and that would have been explosive enough.

Juice Pig.. Liar... Washed up 40 year old senile piece of garbage

Man this is really a tough one. On one hand a guy who is facing jail has an option to tell all he knows with immunity so it is in his best interest to tell the truth, on the other hand is a man who wants to strongly defend his reputation in light of what a court would deem as hear say evidence and not admissable. This is what bugs me... All the commentators are saying that Roger should prove that he never did steroids. That would be like asking Curt Shilling to prove he never did. How can he do that? How would you prove it? Once a rumor is out there, it becomes gospel. Where is the real hard evidence? That should be the question. As far as I know there is not a paper trail with Roger, although I could be wrong about that. But shouldn't someone on either side produce real proof if a man's reputation is at stake?

December 24, 2007  06:44 AM ET

Absolutely, North Country Snowman, and before that it was a sworn statement from a federal agent about the grimsley report, him being named on it, and later when the report was revealed, he was't on it!

His lies are unbelievable!

December 24, 2007  11:43 AM ET

My favorite is people acting surprised about this. Just like Bonds, he added 30 pounds of muscle well into his 30s. How many people do that naturally?

December 24, 2007  11:58 AM ET

This is silly. It was way too controlled. He should just face a live media group and answer unrehearsed questions. I think he cheated though anyway.

December 24, 2007  12:13 PM ET

Clemens is a lying p***y. I can forgive those who own up to it (even if they only did after they were caught), but I can't forgive the ones who are so arrogant (see Bonds, Barry and Clemens, Fatso) that they will forever hide behind lies.

December 24, 2007  12:17 PM ET

Plus, what makes the Clemens thing even more appalling is how he used the extra performance and endurance he gained through these drugs to extort millions of dollars from the Astros and Yankees. Seriously, has someone counted how many millions he made after he started juicing? Even give him the Toronto years as a gimme and you're still looking at what ... 50 mil? 70 mil? That's the shame here. This greedy ba****d made a killing and now is content to lie about it to the people who paid him all of that money.

December 24, 2007  12:19 PM ET

North Country, I don't think you understand the concept of hearsay evidence.

Say Mcnamee stated, David Justice told me Clemens was on 'roids during the 2000 season. That would be hearsay evidence.

Mcnamee's story was a first person account, according to him, he injected roids himself.

If everyone implicated by Mcnamee came out and fiercely denied his claims, I'd be a little more inclined to believe Clemens.

December 24, 2007  12:26 PM ET

A lie detector test right there on 60 minutes. Then we will all know.
I am not a fan of the guy, but Mcnamee is the type of reflected glory jock sniffer type that you can't really trust. He may have lied about Clemons thinking he might get a book deal. Not likely, but...

December 24, 2007  02:08 PM ET

Localboy54,
When has Mike Wallace eaten anyone's lunch? This is like having your brother interview you. Remember Bill Clinton and Maria Jones both LIED on 60 Minutes. Clemens will not be asked the tough questions.
I believe he's lying. If not, I'll be the first to offer my apologies. Roger has too much to lose here. He has to lie. Now this BS of him placing a video on HIS own website saying he never took roids or HGH. Just maybe he is believing his on lies.

If he's not lying he should have been on ESPN, NBC, ABC, CBS, TNT, Dr.Phil, Oprah ......., saying this report is not true and I would be sueing the crap out of everyone I thought I could sue.

December 24, 2007  02:55 PM ET

I hope you're right. I don't want to see Clemons get away with an "self made" interview.

December 24, 2007  02:58 PM ET

At least in the movie, he got a trial. You haters don't even give him that much.

You're not interested in what happened or didn't happen. That's too complicated. You're just interested in tearing someone down. That's easy, just the way you like it.

What a bunch of lazy, gossiping cowards. You're like the villagers in the old horror movies, shaking your torches and pitchforks, screaming for someone's head. Just an angry mob.

December 24, 2007  03:37 PM ET

All I have to say is, why make your case on 60 minutes and not to Senator Mitchell when given ample opportunity to do so?

My speculation is, that if you appear before Mitchell and lie, you're smoked because of the evidence. If you lie on 60 Minutes no big deal. People lie on TV all the time. Unless Mike Wallace bushwhacks Clemens with McNamee walking into the room, it's a useless exercise simply because Clemens had the chance to do something about it. He knew he was going to be in that report.
