08:23 AM ET 10.11 | It seems a few former enforcers still have some fight left in them. Sources tell The Gazette that the Tennessee law firm Kay, Griffin, Enkema & Colbert will release a statement early Tuesday morning from former NHL players Chris Nilan, Jim Thomson and Stu Grimson indicating the players are not satisfied with Don Cherry's remarks Saturday night and making clear that they expect a full apology from the CBC commentator. ... [Cherry] referred to the Nilan, Thomson and Grimson as "pukes," "hypocrites" and "turncoats." The statement is expected to indicate that the players feel Cherry's comments were vulgar and malicious and in light of his limited attempt to qualify his comments Saturday, they are considering further action to force an apology.

Cherry likes a good fight.

Interestingly enough is Cherry using the term...turncoats. LOL.

Maybe Shanny can suspend him?

Don Cherry is a side show. The Rush Limbaugh of hockey.

What are they gonna do? Sue him to say he's sorry? You know he isn't sorry.

They tried to use recent events to bolster their own agenda and Grapes called em on it. Now they are mad because he exposed them and won't apologize for it? This is ridiculous.

Whether he's right or not, Grapes is one of the few people left who actually has the Game's best interest, not his own, in mind. Sometimes he goes to far, sometimes he's more abrasive than required, but that's Grapes.

He's old school and may not have his finger on the pulse of the new NHL, but he is adamant about protecting the Game and i have much respect for him for that.

Don Cherry, even though his fashion sense is shall we say "off the charts" is nothing short of a straight shooter and has no problems stating what's on his mind.

October 11, 2011  09:38 AM ET

With his pictured purple jacket, Don looks like Barney the Dinosaur. And he is a dinosaur. Good bye, Donny. Please retire- your tired "old school" rants sound like my grandparents complaining about everything that is wrong in society today because things aren't like they were in the good old days.

October 11, 2011  09:38 AM ET

This makes me want to puke all over my turncoat.

October 11, 2011  09:40 AM ET

No they're not going to sue him but I'm sure they're going to make the CBC a little uncomfortable. I agree with Cherry's stated concern that you don't want to take contact out of hockey. But I also support the efforts to get rid of head hits to the degree possible and lessen the chances of these unnecessary concussions, a la Savard and Crosby. Cherry's personal attacks on ex-players, meant to show how tough he is and how foolish they are, just make him look stupid in my opinion. he's an ex-coach and has forgotten more about pro hockey than I'll ever know. But, I consider his recent "crusade" more cartoonish than serious.

Maybe he and Hank Williams can modernize the opening to HNIC? "Are you ready for some Hockey"?

Except that Cherry is sometimes funny.

He isn't going to apologize, so let it go...

You'll be hearing from my lawyer for that statement.

(And were was my sign Saturday night?)

I watched the Nux/Jackets yesterday so yes I'm still ready for some Hockey.

I watched the Caps suffocate the Lightning last night, 6-5. What defense! And Varly blanked the Bruins 1- 0. Going according to plan so far.

He must have stolen that coat from Lindsey Nelson (my God rest his soul)

Absolutely. It's hard not to use four-letter words.
