Epstein-to-Cubs hung up on compensation?

08:11 AM ET 10.12 | One of Red Sox Nation's favorite sons may be done with his own hometown team. While the Cubs are closing in on a deal to make Epstein their general manager, talks between the Cubs and Red Sox still could collapse over the question of compensation. There has been fear within the Cubs' organization that Chairman Tom Ricketts will be asked to part with major pieces, possibly including All-Star shortstop Starlin Castro or Andrew Cashner, who on Tuesday hit 100 mph with his fastball in an Arizona Fall League game. Is Epstein worth such a high price? Is any general manager? Those are the questions Ricketts, his siblings and club President Crane Kenney are sorting though as the possibility of Epstein leaving the Red Sox becomes more real.

Why on earth would the Cubs give up Starlin Castro or Andrew Cashner? The only two legit young players that they have?

Castro? Cashner? Who wrote this drivel? The Cubs will be giving up neither of these two. Top players or prospects are not exchanged in deals such as these. Why not ask for Brett Jackson as well?

There are plenty of guys out there who can do that job just as well or better than Theo, with John Henry's money to work with.

Trading someone who doesn't even get onto the field for prospects? Sounds like a terrible idea to me.

It's happened before. Bill Parcells was worth a 1st round draft pick to the Jets once.

The Patriots gave the Jets a 1st round pick for Bill Belichick in 2000. That has seemed to work out pretty well for the Pats.

Supposedly they are asking for Jackson.

Sure, and possibly Harry Carey's statue, the Bartman chair and a few black cats.

If the Cubs are dumb enough to give up the only blue chips they have for Epstein then it'll take a over a hundred years for them to ever win anything....8)

I am not so sure the problem was with Theo. The Sux just are getting too old in too many positions. That and Beckett got injured late, Lackey and Crawford were busts.
Besides Beckett is a turd bucket, Pableblown can't pitch and Youk did smack around enough girl friends.

Won't get it. They would sooner sign Juan EPSTEIN or Arnold Horshack before that happened

Who should they ask for Alfonso Soriano? The top man running your whole organization could be the most important man in the whole franchise.

I know it's not unprecedented. If I'm not wrong, sportscaster Ernie Harwell was once traded for a player. It just doesn't seem like a great idea.
Thing is, there has to be other talented people qualified for the job out there that would not require fleecing the farm.

I could care less who they ask for. This is just what I heard on Chicago sports talk this morning coming into work.
