08:14 AM ET 10.12 | Credit White Sox general manager Ken Williams for thinking outside of the box. One of the biggest revelations of the Robin Ventura news conference Tuesday was that [Williams] didn't deny a New York Daily News report that he considered slugger Paul Konerko for the manager's job. "That report is not false," Williams said Tuesday after Ventura was formally announced. "It was considered long enough for me to realize that Paul is a very cerebral person and he would probably drive himself nuts right now playing and managing at the same time," Williams said when asked how seriously he considered Konerko.

What a terrible idea this was. Good thing they went with Robin instead.

That never would've happened.

I'm not going to say Paulie wouldnt of been up to the challange- because I dont know of one current player on any teams roster that would of been able to meet this kinda challange. But as a guy that only actually likes a guy as a player- I would hate to see a responsibilty hefted upon a clubhouse leader like that . And it would likely leach a little of his enjoyment out of the game as well for him. And to the WhiteSox current favorite son, I am pretty sure it would of been a bad move.

Could he of done it? Yes

Would he of done it to his own detriment. Absolutely

Do the WhiteSox need to risk their biggest bat and clubhouse influence from being overloaded like that. No, not at all.
