Jackson: Kobe isn't going anywhere

06:21 AM ET 12.24 | The trade deadline is almost two months away, but coach Phil Jackson doesn't see Kobe Bryant going anywhere, the strongest such statement by a Lakers official that their top player will still be theirs at season's end. "There just [aren't] any comparable situations," Jackson said. "It's like giving up a diamond for some garnets, whatever, I don't know."

Sure, why let go of your best player when you can have the perfect escape goat when things go bad come playoff time.

Zen also includes looking smart even when losing.

Can we trade Phil Jackson to some Eastern Block former Soviet Union basketball team?

December 24, 2007  09:32 AM ET

The first two idiots to post on this thread seem to have nothing better to do but wait on stories to do with Kobe. Funny fools, get a life or at least end the miserable one you have at present.

and it should be eightwonder-- learn to spell English you uneducated clown-- try hooked on phonics-- it works for 2nd graders everywhere

December 24, 2007  10:09 AM ET

I said this 3 months ago. There isn't a team in the league that could make a deal for him and be relevant with Kobe and the players they would have left. Kobe will remain a Laker. Deal with it.

Hllywd

Well until after this year is over and he opts out and then LA gets nothing and likes it

@vanrichten:

Thank you for proving how predictable pathetic human beings like you are when you get stung by others criticism. The name is spelt like that for morons like you to have fun at attempting to sound more educated and informed. The grade school comparison is always a winner, lol. Hooked on phonics is still in use??? lol. Enjoy you holiday too, see you later at the detox center my fellow crackhead.

suggesting that I should end my life prompted my venom but you have a lovely time in prison

December 24, 2007  11:22 AM ET

If Kryobe remains a Lakers for life, it' more like you are the one having to deal with it. Enjoy the down hill ride.

hope your cellmate takes it easy on you tonight as it is Christmas and all

December 24, 2007  01:03 PM ET

ooooh, another classic one-liner by the GREAT van_richten. Damn, you must have a book filled with all the cliche lines or perhaps some sort of subscription???

So which is it: the detox center or prison??? Do you always have these random thoughts of guys in Prison getting it on? Is it your way of screaming out for help?? The urge for some guy-on-guy action? Don't fight it my friend, just let it out.

Odenator
We miseed your wit and wisdom. I am by no means a Laker or Kobe fan. I do however understand how this works. If you've read my past threads, I've said all along that Kobe was holding them hostage, and made a trade that makes sense almost impossible. No team is going to mortgage their future on one player and have him opt out of his contract in a year. Laker fans will have to deal with the fact that after all the scenarios(wishful thinking) about hypothetical deals, Kobe is going to remain a Laker. He will NOT opt out next year because noone is going to give him anything like the deal he has in LA.

December 24, 2007  03:00 PM ET

You are a Heats fan...that' even worse.

December 24, 2007  04:53 PM ET

Don't argue with eightwonda, he's a crackhead Laker fan, and most likely another illiterate Dodger fan to boot.

December 24, 2007  06:29 PM ET

I wish you luck with your Blazers. I just hope you don't do like Liontut and disappear from the nation when you are proven wrong about Oden. It would take away from my enjoyment if you weren't around for me to tell you "I told you so."

December 24, 2007  09:01 PM ET

We'll revisit this discussion in a year when your Heat will be in the lottery and Oden is making O'Neal looking like HE's 54 years old. Merry Christmas.

December 24, 2007  11:38 PM ET

LA wouldn't be dumb enough to trade another All world player....

December 25, 2007  11:55 AM ET

The Lakers and Kobe are stuck, whether they like it or not. And they won't win any championships with this supporting cast, either, even with a much improved Bynum.

Perhaps they may be able to make a move next season, when Brown's contract expires, via the free agent route, but I just don't see this team, as presently constituted, winning a championship anytime soon.

Unlike LeBron, Kobe is not a natural team leader; he's a talented gunner, that's all, and doesn't have the intangibles. I'd hate to play with this guy.
