phillies are cheap priccccksss

December 24, 2007  09:34 PM ET

how are the phillies cheap? do you really want them to spend at least 12 million to get Carlos Silva or Kyle Loshe?

December 25, 2007  02:16 AM ET

they are not cheap, they just don't have an unlimited budget, so when they make mistakes -- and do they make mistakes!!v -- they can't dig out. jon lieber, arthur rhodes for jason michaels, tom gordon and others forced them to trade bobby abreu for nothing and not havein enough to sign aaron rowand after giveing pat burrel too big a contract,

however, give them credit for taking a chance on brad lidge and yes, NOT wasgting big money on carlos silva and kyle losche

Greenyanks: I agree on Silva, what he get $48 mil? We don't see team owner's financials, but I read in other pubs, that some of the teams can afford, but chose not to (not in their business plan or whatever) and that's cool, there are more ways to the pennant, (A's& Twins in past etc.) but spending certainly helps, look at the Red Sox and Yankees. With the Sox: $ 56 Mil just to talk to that japanese pitcher's team, and another 50 or so for his salary, (over $100 mil? wow) what he finish with? 15 wins? other teams got P's with 15 wins, for much less money. look at A rod $300 mil??? for 10 years? Lord have mercy. A solid farm system, several right moves in the off season and patience, something the yanks and sox are now starting to understand, at least until one of them goes for Santana, but he is an exception, if you want to spend, one of the best if not the best pitcher in baseball.

greenyanks-The Phillies actually offered Rowand more $ anually than the Giants but they were smart enough to not guarantee 5 years and that is what he wanted.
