Jagr didn't like being 'the guy'

08:24 AM ET 10.13 | Yes, the pressure got to Jaromir Jagr. That explains Jagr's moodiness in the second half of his career and also why Jagr is suddenly back in the NHL three years later: he no longer has to be the best. ... "How to explain it?" a thoughtful Jagr said before making his Philadelphia debut against the Vancouver Canucks. "I always loved the game. But when I was in position as 'the guy' ... if you feel good, everything is fine because you know you can make the difference. But there are times you don't feel good and you still have to do it. That's pressure. That's when you struggle because you know you're the guy and you know you don't feel good but you still have to do it."

Bet you anything that while he "didn't like being 'the guy'", he liked the paycheck that came with it.

Jagr not "dying alive," yet, is he?
All good? Good.

You guys think you're being funny but I know what Jaromir is talking about. Back in the day, half a century ago, when I started working for a paycheck I was "the guy" I had to run out and get coffee and pastries for the older men and women on the team. Every day at 9 AM and I better be back with the stuff by in 20 minutes. You have no idea of the pressure. Funny? I don't think so. I've got your back Jaromir.

Sorry Slappy, I can't see Jagr doing a coffee-and-donuts run for his new team. I can picture the guys having Couturier do one for them though, if that helps.

AND WTF kind of comment is that, anyway?
I get it, but what is he trying to say: "Hey Philly, if I am constipated, don't expect 100% from me."
There are plenty of NHLers who give there all even if they aren't up to par.

A more plausible situation, yes.

That is the first thing I would want in a superstar player, to say I don't want to be the guy. Hey when things are on the line, I don't want to be the guy. When our team is struggling, I don't want to be the guy to turn things around.
Speaking of Philly, sorry Phantom, but I read a few articles where they are getting ripped because they were booing a hockey fights cancer commercial.

Still a game-changer. So solid in the corners and damn-near impossible to get off the puck. I am not a Philly fan by any means, but a great pick-up if you ask me.

I was thinking the same thing... If you don't want to be "that guy" then don't ask for "that guy" money.

I've said this for years. It was evident when mario left the first time. Jagr was a great player, but he never was "THE GUY"

Doesn't matter. He doesn't need to be BMOC with the Flyers. Everyone knows that he will be a supportive player, so it could work out fine. I would be a little peeoohed as a Pens fan or Rangers fan or Caps fan. Much more was expected of him and he clearly wasn't willing to take on that responsibility. His honesty is nice, but a bit late for those other teams.

Really? Did you witness this supposed booing? Where were this articles coming from? You do understand, don't you, that any media outside of Philly commenting on Philly fans will not be objective and in many cases will be outright lies. They play to gullible people who want to believe whatever they read as gospel without understanding the underlying motive of the articles.
While I appreciate your concern, let me try to alleviate it so you can rest easy. Since it's inception, the Flyers Wives Carnival has raised over $50M for cancer research. The vast majority of that $$ comes from the generosity of the fans attending the carnival. So, I'm not too worried about how we respond to this issue. I'm also not too concerned about bias junk media reports designed to misrepresent us. And, neither should you be.

Another one of those blown out of proportion stories. Some fans were booing Crosby, Toews, and Miller, not booing fighting cancer.
Canuck eh?

This year will be the 35th anniversary for Flyers wives carnival. 35 years, and tens of millions of dollars later it's still a highly anticipated event. Seems very unlikely anyone here in Philly would boo that cause.
