08:14 AM ET 10.14 | C.J. out and CC in? A baseball source told ESPNNewYork.com today that the Texas Rangers, currently one win away from a second straight trip to the World Series but likely to lose starter C.J. Wilson to free agency over the winter, are preparing to make a strong bid to sign CC Sabathia if the Yankees ace chooses to exercise the opt-out clause in his contract, as expected. "I hear they're going to throw a boatload of money at him," said the source, who requested anonymity, "But I think he'll stay with the Yankees. He's talked so much about how much he loves New York, and besides, the Yankees can't afford to lose him from that pitching staff." Sabathia won 19 games for the Yankees this season.

There's plenty of steak in Texas for the big guy.

That said, I don't think he'll leave NYC.

October 14, 2011  08:23 AM ET

No way they out bid the Yankers.

October 14, 2011  08:23 AM ET

CC is not going anywhere but back to the Yankees and ofcourse......the buffet table.

October 14, 2011  08:27 AM ET

I hope not!

So Texas is going to throw "a boatload" of money at CC but not at C.J.? I'm confused

They do succeed at that.

CC is the only NY pitcher that has been paid lots of $$$ and hasn't sucked terribly.

They're the same age. Sabathia is one of the top pitchers in the game and a proven workhorse. CJ Wilson is not.

Beyond hasn't sucked terribly, he's been pretty ****ing awesome.

Three years in the AL East averaging 235 regular season innings per with a 3.18 ERA. That's bad ass.

CJ is still a work in progress obviously. To throw big money at him after just 2 seasons as a starter doesn't make a lot of sense. But I'm sure someone will and get burned. Doubt the Rangers throw a boatload at CC but I wouldn't think he would want to work in the Texas furnace anyway.

I'd tend to agree with this.

Oh yeah.....I'd much rather have CC.

I don't think there's a GM in baseball that wouldn't.

Another team joining the "buy a championship" bandwagon. Too funny.

October 14, 2011  10:12 AM ET

I wouldnt throw a boatload of money at C.J.....no thanks!

October 14, 2011  10:26 AM ET

They can all bid over him, then watch him go somewhere in Cali. Man has all the money he needs. He's going home to Cali.

I wouldn't say Pettitte and Rivera have sucked terribly.

Most rich people's mentality is that they can never have enough money.
