Cleared for contact, Crosby may have to hit someone

08:26 AM ET 10.14 | Someone, at some point, is going to have to take one for the team and hit Sidney Crosby. Perhaps [Crosby's] biggest short-term concern will be finding a samaritan to rattle his teeth, and a time for that to happen. "I might have to do something to get them to hit me," Crosby, smiling broadly, said Thursday of his Penguins teammates. It was an upbeat day for the captain of the club. Crosby received clearance for full contact in practices, a highly anticipated late-stage step in his comeback from a concussion. ... He has noted that players coming off of injuries often are treated gingerly by teammates, but he doesn't want kid-gloves treatment. He's willing to be proactive. "Maybe bump them a little bit," Crosby said.

How About A Hit And Run, Bro?

October 14, 2011  08:32 AM ET

Glad he's back, at last. Hope things go well in his return. I'd hate to be the opponent who gives him a hard check for the first time in 9 months or so. You think that contact will be watched closely in his first dozen or so games back? I think so.

October 14, 2011  08:37 AM ET

Throw me on the ice with him. I'll knock him around the boards.....that is, if I can catch him.

October 14, 2011  08:44 AM ET

let matt cooke hit him...see how that works out for you

Glad he's back, too.

Someone will hit him, everything will be fine, & we won't have any more threads like these. We can only hope.

Easy pick for winning the scoring race with all the space hes going to get out there.

The cheap shot artists of the league are licking their chops right now. My greatest fear is that someone lays him out with a completely legal check and gets punished for it because he ends up hurt again. I don't think it will go down like that, but it is a fear.

October 14, 2011  09:07 AM ET

Can't wait for his return. Everything else is a "wait and see."

October 14, 2011  09:21 AM ET

So now he's looking for some "experimental contact?"

October 14, 2011  09:27 AM ET

Yeah...new update.

As he doesn't play against Pittsburgh...he may get hit legally.
Asham is a feminine hygine disposal product, by the way.
Just wanted to get that in there.

here's hoping you're right

BTW Slappy, good win last night. I will take the point considering, and I thought my Pens played a good game.

I hope Beagle is okay. I never like to see a hockey player get hurt.
I can't say I appreciated Asham's post-fight mocking, but I can appreciate he stuck up for a teammate.

Up until the Winter Classic hit, has anyone ever really "laid him out?" He's too fast.
Now as far as mucking it up in the corners, well I'd let Kunitz take that workload for awhile.

October 14, 2011  09:54 AM ET

What? No picture of Crosby hitting somebody? I'm disappointed!

October 14, 2011  10:02 AM ET

Just play in a fricken game and you'll get hit bro. If he's cleared for contact and has been practicing why is he not playing in actual games?

October 14, 2011  10:11 AM ET

Considering hits like the Steckel one are so rare and he didn't seem to have any problems until then, so he probably will be ok. There is no way to avoid or prepare for fluky hits, just have to go out and play his game.

They better not treat him any differently than anybody else on the ice. I don't want to see anybody run him with any cheap stuff, but he's a hockey player and he will get hit. The league will look pathetic if it attempts to protect him by penalizing any contact with him.

You know they will, tho. He is their marketing poster boy and the league wants him on the ice.

And, in other news, Alice Hurtsky ... I mean ... Ales Hemsky is back to his old self. He's out with another shoulder injury.

Hemsky, Havlat and Gaborik must've come from the seed of the same donor. All very talented but delicate and brittle. Should've been figure skaters.
