Miami may escape heavy NCAA penalties

07:24 AM ET 10.16 | An official close to the NCAA's investigation said several former Miami players have refused to speak to the NCAA, as expected, and the NCAA probably won't be able to corroborate most of what Nevin Shapiro claimed against more than 50 former Hurricanes players. Fact is, no one at UM knows for sure what to expect, but there's optimism the penalty won't be crushing. One UM official said the irony is beyond all the harm that Shapiro has done, UM ended up losing money on him, because it had to return his donations and because he never paid the $50,000-plus for his Sun Life Stadium suite in 2009.

Of course they will not get punished. The guy who runs the NCAA board of Infractions, Paul Dee, was the AD at Miami while all these violations were going on.
Where is the outrage? Occupy Paul Dee.

I don't see why anyone would be outraged. It's not like the NCAA has handed out substantial punishments to any school in the past 2 years.

Have you not heard about the ridiculous 3 year probation the NCAA Kangaroo Court inflicted on USC because of a guy named Reggie?

I totally agree with Sandy. And to boot, the NCAA's actions are arbitrary at best. And while I am at it, what do those in the 'hood do? They never rat, but that should not be evidence of non-guilt. To the contrary, the NCAA should smack them for not cooperating since if they had nothing to hide, they would speak. It's an f'n joke.

You are all totally right. A lying felon who stole a billion dollars from other people should be taken at his word....
The dude is a cleat chaser. Whatever happens to the U, I hope nevin Shapiro gets what's coming to him in prison.
Hopefully he gets what he has always wanted. To be a reciever.

Shapiro shouldn't be taken at his word, but he actually has pictures of partying and travelling with Miami players and receipts and concrete evidence of pay-offs. We've seen him running out of the tunnel with the Hurricanes. We know he traveled with the team. We know he also owned a sports management company, at the same time, called Axcess Sports that signed several Hurricane players to contracts when they turned pro.
Please. You think it's okay to allow a booster that owns a sports management company to give money, gifts, trips, dinners, parties, girls, and pay for abortions to college football players who then sign with his management company after college?
This all happened while the Chairman of the board on NCAA Infractions, Paul Dee, was the AD at Miami and there are pictures of Shapiro with Paul Dee and the university president as he pays them off with $50,000 donations?
From the most corrupt football program in history to the most corrupt branch of the NCAA. Paul Dee-- American scumbag.

You'd think Shapiro could've gotten better players for his investment, LOL, but there must be a reason why he's in the can! Buy high, sell low?!
