Luck: NFL teams tanking for me is 'stupid'

08:53 AM ET 10.16 | While Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck, coveted for his accuracy and intelligence, enjoys his final season at Stanford, he has inadvertently turned beleaguered followers of struggling N.F.L.'s teams on their heads. From Seattle to Miami, rather than root for a win, fans root for him. Their feelings are summed up in a coarse three-word rhyme that has given shape to Twitter feeds, Facebook pages and dozens of Web sites. It implores downtrodden teams, in essence, to play really, really poorly for Luck. "I am aware of it," said Luck, who becomes awkward and uncomfortable whenever the N.F.L. is brought up. "A couple of guys told me about it. I think it's stupid. Simply put."

All They Want Is Some Luck, Bro.

Best QB to come out of college in a long time. He calls his own plays for crying out loud when is the last time we've seen that? Of course teams are tempted to tank in order to get him.

This is quite refreshing. An excellent quarterback come out of a premier academic school rather than constantly hearing about SEC schools where they are academic bottom feeders.

The real winner may be the runner up, when they pick Kellen Moore.

Seems to me...or I'm just seeing it this way...but the college QB's seem to lock in on their receivers?

Of course I'm not down on the field....but their heads don't turn as much as the pros....you can see Brees or Brady looking all over.

For some reason I thought RG III wasn't even 6 feet tall.

Funny. The SEC has 2 of the top listed educational institutions in the country. Florida and Vanderbilt. With Tex A&M joining, that gives them 3. That's more than the ACC. More than the Big 12. More than the Pac-10. But by all means bash the SEC. Us SEC fans understand you guys are jealous. It's okay....

By the way. If you don't believe the lil stat about UF and Vandy. Look it up.

Luck may turn out to be a great NFL qb. MAY. I think he's got the skills, but I also think far to many people are calling the guy a sure thing. I'll wait to call him the next elite NFL qb when he actually gets to the NFL and actually.....wait for it......plays some games in the NFL. Let us not forget. Ryan Leaf was a sure thing too....

6'2", 220 lbs...according to the Baylor press release, anyway.

The Hype for Luck is also stupid. Stanford hasn't played a team with a winning record the entire season. Anybody could post great numbers against the collective of freaks Stanford has played. When the Cardinal start losing (next week against Washington) I sure hope the phony BS about Luck and Stanford finally dies. If not next week, the week after when they lose to USC, and if not then after Oregon pastes, and if not then, the final insult-- Losing to Notre Dame.

Uhhhh, Matt Leinart.... John David Booty (who?)...Vince Young... Colt McCoy.

Not really a collective of huge successes in the Pros, but all those guys called their own plays. And most 5th year seniors with as much playing time as Luck would have no problem calling their own plays when the best team out of the last 6 you played is Duke.

Tanking for Elway 2.0 is NOT stupid! In fact virtually every team in the league will be kicking themselves two years from now for not doing it. It's how Houston go Akeem and Chicago go Jordan (with an assist from Portland, that is). Suck for Luck is the best possible strategy in Denver, Seattle, Miami, Arizona, the Jets, Philadelphia - anywhere that doesn't have anything resembling a franchise QB. Why go 8-8 and suck again next year when you can Luck your way to 13-3 for the next decade. Stupid indeed!

October 16, 2011  01:57 PM ET

I'm so **** nauseated from all this talk about Luck. They will never be able to rebroadcast the USC-Cal game on ESPN Classic, because all they did was talk about Andrew Luck throughout the whole damn thing. And years from now, people will re-watch that game and be like, "who the hell is Andrew Luck?" And "Stanford didn't always suck?" And "I guess they should've waited for Luck to finish the season to find out he really actually sucks when he plays a halfway decent team". And "Didn't he lose to the Ducks by 20 points every time he played them?". And "The Ducks didn't always suck?". And "I remember Sandy Underpants talking about this happening, who would have believed we actually elected him President". And, "Well he was better than Bush anyway." And "And by bush I mean a woman's privates".

The calling your own plays thing is truly stupid. They guy is receiving the best education of any QB drafted in the first round THIS CENTURY. What? You think he's not SMART enough?
Idiot!

October 16, 2011  02:00 PM ET

You are one truly clueless individual! Luck is by far the best prospect THIS CENTURY! Please stop embarrassing yourself. It's....
embarrassing!

Elway went 6-5 his last year at Stanford. How'd he turn out.? Tennessee won the national championship after Peyton Manning left (with Teee frickin' Martin!). How did he work out in the pros?
Really, learn a little before posting here.
