Beginning of the end for McNabb?

08:00 AM ET 10.17 | The Vikings left no quarterback unturned Sunday in what may become the start of Christian Ponder's NFL career. [The appearance] came in the strangest of circumstances -- with starter Donovan McNabb (19-for-24, 177 yards) having one of his better outings of the season yet with the Vikings trailing 39-10. Ponder played two series and went 9-for-17 for 99 yards, his longest completion a 23-yard dart to Greg Camarillo. Yet whether this was a torch passing or just a rookie gaining experience in garbage time remains to be seen. ... [Leslie Frazier] faces a major decision on whether to invest in the future and start Ponder going forward or to stick with McNabb, an aging veteran on a struggling team with no hopes of making the playoffs.

The future is now.

There's nothing to Ponder here. Time to throw Christian to the lions.

Didn't the beginning of the end start three years ago?

October 17, 2011  08:18 AM ET

Play Ponder and hope he does well enough for other teams to draw interest. Trade him and go after Luck. Just don't keep McNabb around.

Yeah this is the ending of the end

October 17, 2011  08:24 AM ET

Every end is a new beginning. For McNabb it's the beginning of his tenure on the Campbell's Soup Board of Directors.

Weird how he smiled on the sidelines after they benched him.

He said he expects to start next week... LOL!

So the plan is "Maybe if we switch quarterbacks, we can stop the run? Stop the pass?" Their defense is 90 years old!!!

Daniel? Ponder

I did not want to see McNabb replaced, but if the team is not going to make the playoffs, and that's what McNabb was brought here to do; take this team to the playoffs and further, then let the rook get his reps. At some point it has to make sense to prepare for the future, with a 1 and 5 record the season is over at this point and the team have not played the Packers.

For the first time this season the Bears' O-line protected Cutler, and with the Vikes D having to constantly worry about Forte, Cutler tore up the field. Vikes aren't made to win a scoring contest, especially the way the Bears D stuffed Peterson. It wasn't McNabb's fault. The Bears just hit their stride and completely outplayed the Vikes.
