08:15 AM ET 10.17 | Saturday's Michigan-Michigan State rivalry game lived up to its billing as among the most physical games either team plays each season. The Spartans swarmed the Wolverines, recording seven sacks and 10 tackles for loss while dominating the play at the line of scrimmage. The question many were asking after the game, however, was whether Michigan State took that physical play too far. The Spartans were flagged for five personal fouls, including two on sophomore defensive end William Gholston. "You do have to be able to control your emotions, you can't let it take you over the edge," Gholston said. "I had two personal fouls and I guess I went a little too far. But you can't play this game without emotion and love and passion."

Blame part of that on the officials. When you flag a player for throwing a punch, but don't eject him, that's on the zebras.

Michigan played sloppy, never developed any consistency, was simply outplayed by MSU.
As for the officiating..yes it was bad but not a deciding factor. Lets move on

MSU learned that playing physical is the way to play. They learned it in the bowl game. I did not see the whole game and so missed the penalties, but playing physical does not mean personal fouls.

I agree with you on the physical play, however Gholston was caught on camera punching a player. He should have been ejected for that alone, but given that was his 2nd personal foul of the game, definately.
Not making excuses, MSU would have won either way
