08:05 AM ET 10.18 | Perhaps lost in the silliness of Handshake-gate was the troubling news surrounding Jahvid Best. It's a concern, a big concern, but as Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Monday, there is nothing anybody can do for [Best] except let him go through the process and see how he comes out. Best suffered his second concussion this season in the loss to the 49ers Sunday. "There is a concern because it's the second one," Schwartz said. ... There were some Internet reports circulating that Best already had been placed on the injured list. Those were premature, at the least. Still, there is a chance the uncertainty surrounding Best's health could push general manager Martin Mayhew to be more active before today's trade deadline.

That dude is good. Lions offense changes significantly if he's not in there.

Well what do you expect when you're only about 190lbs and taking shots from guys that are much bigger? I can't question his skills or toughness but he is a tad too small to be a featured back.

So now Detroit slips back into the ranks of also-rans?

"Best" concussion. Better than an excellent concussion? Oh, Javid Best. Now I understand.

He's played a lot more downs than the coaches wished for. Remember, he was listed as 1B on the depth chart just below Mikel LeShore who was lost during the pre-season.

He had similar problems in college. That is a major reason why he was still there for the Lions to draft. He had two concussions in two weeks in 2009, his last college year.

Best should hang it up if he wants to have a normal life. I feel for th kid

I'm surprised no one has brought up Tiki Barber yet. I guess the cynicism level is low this morning.

Not if it was me....Tiki hasn't played a down in how many years?

His last concussion at Cal was one of the most brutal hits I've ever seen... titanic. You Tube it if you don't remember, he's doing well to still be walking and talking, and now he's on his third one since then, it's not unreasonable to say that his career is genuinely in doubt.

They need to find a RB who can block. This has got to be the longest Stafford has stayed on the field.

October 18, 2011  09:58 AM ET

How about grabbing Peyton Hillis

October 18, 2011  10:08 AM ET

Detroit is missing a running game what they need a power back.

They needed to play Morris anyway...they need some power at RB
