League official blames Garnett for [bleeping] things up

08:09 AM ET 10.18 | The labor dispute rolls on without a thaw in the relationship. This fight has grown nastier, more personal, in the past weeks. Privately, management insists that everything changed when the Boston Celtics' Kevin Garnett walked into the negotiating room on Oct. 4. The owners knew it wouldn't go well when Garnett started glowering across the table, sources said, like the league lawyers, owners and officials were opponents at the center jump. He was defiant, determined and downright ornery. He was K.G. Everyone knew Hunter had to cede to the wishes of the stars, and the stars demanded that the players stop making concessions to the owners. As one league official said, "We were making progress, until Garnett [expletive] everything up."

F that somebody had to say something.....All the owners want is concessions and they are not willing to give anything. They act like they will give up the hard cap but then try to throw in some bull that eventually will be a hard cap. Yes the players should give up some of the %....but isnt it the owners who signed people like Joe Johnson to a max contract. Hell Joe Dumars gives away money like its water to his role players. Owners approved all those high priced contracts and now want the money back. Dont be mad at Garnett cause he spoke up.

I wonder if he punched his chest and banged his head on something before he sat down at the table and screamed...

The superstars are destroying everything. These guys... no matter how much influence or sway they have with the players should NOT be sitting down at the table.

I understand that but Im saying they allowed this. No one said that you have to give your best player on your team a max contract when you know he is not an elite player just a very good one. Money was not spent wisely and now they try to blame the players. I do think that a 52/48 split is as low as the players should go. Thats giving alot back. Hell let someone take 5% of your pay and see what it feels like.

Yeah, like KG's the only NBAer that went from HS to the NBA. Why are you just picking on him? Kobe/LeBron/Amare/Howard all did the same thing. So what's the difference between KG and all the others that have done the same? Just wondering.

The star players have no business at the negotiating table - that's why they have union representatives. They will get what they deserve (players + owners) when the fans don't come back. Morons don't realize 53/47 vs. 50/50, etc. is insignificant when the pie your splitting is half the size it used to be.

100% PR BS by the owners. Most fans blame them for the lockout so they're using KG's personality to try to flip it around on the players. Of course one player sitting in on one meeting isn't undoing months of negotiations.

KG, the players, and the owners are all IDIOTS and the fans should hold their own LOCKOUT if the season ever starts.

Did he fist pump his chest? Or did he refer to everyone at the table as "****'?

The owners cannot set a standard of overpaying players and then expect to get it all back in one fatal swoop. That is unrealistic. The players will and should make concessions when it comes to percentages, but I think the owners are a bit full of themselves if they think they can get it all back in one year. Progress should be the goal of the pharaohs....I mean owners. They spend mega money on idiot non impact players like Chris Kaman, Joe Johnson, Rodney Stuckey....etc. And now its the players fault that you are broke ? Just because you have money to spend doesn't mean you have to on players that don't get it done in crunch time (or anytime). Look at your money management skills, put your 80 year old egos aside then lets negotiate. Players have egos as well, I realize that but at least they are willing to negotiate and give a bit.....

This is funny..... Everyone thinks the owners are the ones being deceptive...lol Look the owners are getting raped by the ALL Star players and small market teams have suffered because of it. Players dont want a salary cap, they dont want a franchise tag, they want to push themselves to their "preferred" team for the endorsements that city could give them... Carmelo and NY, Shaq and LA, Lebron in Miami, etc. Im not saying the owner have no blame to share, but its really the players killing this league now.... So please.... KG.... go play in Russia.... See where that attitude gets ya.

Just like the NFL, the players WILL give in in the end. Everyone is correct that the owners let the salaries spiral out of control, but they are well within their rights and privilege as owners to do everything they can to bring them back under control. there are owners that are losing money and no business stays in business if it isn't making a healthy profit. no more than 50/50 should be expected and since the owners take all the risk 48/52 makes more sense to me.

Stern & the league get what they deserve. They wanted a league of stars and they got a league of premi donna's. Spoiled brats that have been blessed by GOD with physical gifts and now they think the world owes them.
Let them try their own league and put their money on the line.
In today's economy there is no room for their selfish greedy attitude.
