Twins eye pitching, shortstops, a decision on Cuddyer

08:11 AM ET 10.19 | The Twins have reportedly discussed a lot of their offseason hopes and dreams, including the free agent market for starting pitchers and shortstops. They are determined to find a reliable shortstop this offseason and players like Ramon Santiago and Alex Gonzalez could be on their radar. The Twins are going to push hard to re-sign Michael Cuddyer, but they expect him to see what's on the free agent market before making a final decision. That's not surprising. Most players hitting the free agent market for the first time want to see what the process is like. The big question is if the Twins can afford -- or want to afford -- to bring both Cuddyer and Jason Kubel. If they bring Cuddyer back they might not bring Kubel back.

Kubel had a good 2009, the only year he hit .300 and had a nice OPS to boot. He isn't worth resigning and his average at best stats can be replaced from within.

Wow... 2pm and only #2...

Just looked up the Twins stats and am impressed that Cuddyer led the team in Avg, HRs and 2nd in ABs & RBI's...

BUT... He was loosely penciled into RF to start the season - but went on to play just about every position this year.

Don't get me wrong - he's a solid player and I make a point to have him on my fantasy squad every year.

The Twins should keep Cuddyer, give him his own position and get 4 more guys just like him.

Kubel would be a better fit with a team that needs a DH and plays in a stadium more conducive to his power, a team such as Toronto. Cuddyer needs to be re-signed, and would be an asset for any team. He could play a role something like Michael Young did for the Rangers this year, which is about what Cuddyer did for the Twins.

They should look for a new general manager in Free agency. Almost every single decision has been a mistake. Overpaid Mauer, Morneau is probably done with his concussions, traded our #1 prospect to the Nationals for a pitcher who replaced an injured overpaid closer, signed a Japanese player who can't hit or field. The farm system is pretty much depleted. I could go on and on but my fingers will probably start bleeding from typing to much.

Agree on every single point you make. Bill Smith has to go!
