08:10 AM ET 10.19 | Jon Lester has since denied it, but there are more alarming reports coming out of Boston. Josh Beckett, Jon Lester and John Lackey drank beer in the Red Sox dugout during games, according to two Red Sox employees who witnessed the drinking on multiple occasions at Fenway Park. On nights when they were not pitching, Beckett, Lester and Lackey would exit the dugout as early as the 6th inning, walk back to the clubhouse, and fill cups with Bud Light beer. They would then return to the dugout with cups of beer and drink while watching the game. ... One Red Sox employee said Beckett, Lester and Lackey appeared "bored on nights they weren't pitching and this is how they entertained themselves."

Time for the 3 J's to saddle up and ride out of town. Tear it all down and start over.

Actually the source said it was Bud Light.

This is an interesting story. All 3 players who had admitted drinking in the clubhouse, last night strongly denied this ever happened. And the writer who broke this story has not come back to defend his sources. This sounds like a clubhouse guy with an axe to grind.

The response from the players was so immediate and so vehement that I tend to believe them.

Bud Light. Ugh.

Very strong denials from all three pitchers and Francona about drinking beer in the dugout.

They didn't deny the talk about clubhouse drinking, so the denials have to be taken seriously.

This is becoming a media feeding frenzy, and as so often happens is such situations, the "can you top this" mentality begins to bring out some creative fiction.

October 19, 2011  08:47 AM ET

The only thing I see wrong about this whole situation is they were selfish....they should have brought enough beer for everyone on the bench.......

October 19, 2011  08:49 AM ET

Maybe they could have gotten away with this if they were sitting in the bull pen but I doubt it was in the dugout. Either way these stories from un-named sources is getting a little old now but looks like this will be milked all off season.

Let's be honest, this almost certainly goes on in every clubhouse in the big leagues. True, the Red Sox are the lowest life form in baseball, but this isn't the reason.
