Bruins reach low point ... already

08:20 AM ET 10.19 | The Bruins displayed more than a little fighting spirt Tuesday night in a game that on the face of things should have been entertaining for the fans. Not this one. Not on a night when the sputtering defending champions finally displayed passion and toughness -- but it was poorly timed and kind of ugly. And ultimately, really dumb, as the B's threw away any chance they had for a comeback victory by taking a succession of penalties that handed the Carolina Hurricanes two 5-on-3 goals and an easy 4-1 win. It was clearly the low point of what's been a flop of a start for the frustrated B's, and the worst moment of all had to be when coach Claude Julien was kicked out -- sent to the dressing room with 3:44 left.

Good thing they dont have Kessel and his 6 goals in the lineup [sarcasm intended]

It'll likely be much more after tonight's drubbing of the Jets.
In Boston's case, they need Krejci back, and they need to smarten up. Nathan Horton basically assaulting an unwilling Tim Gleason was only the lowpoint of what's been a horrible start for him. Getting a double minor doesn't go a long way towards firing up your team.

Also, LOVED Cam Ward getting all up in the ogre's face. That was gold. Also resulted in a minor for drawing Rask across the red line.

I've been on vacation so I haven't watched too much hockey the last week. Is this just a little Stanley Cup hangover, or is it more serious?

Hard to tell BF. Last night was mostly just stupid. But, it's early yet and it's sort of funny to see some of these stories calling for the end of the world after a half dozen games. On the other hand, if this keeps up for another 10 games or so, it'll be time to start worrying.

Right now it's more of the matter of Boston having to realize that the opponent is going to show up raring to go every night. Even the mediocre teams are going to come out flying in an effort to slay the dragon.
A friend of mine and I were talking Sunday during the football game about how Claude's ultra conservative dump and chase system might not fare so well against this type of onslaught for 82 games.
Boston is going to have to eliminate the slow starts (not really the problem last night) and bury their chances when they present themselves (big problem last night). Taking stupid penalties isn't going to help matters either.

Good thing they have Seguin looking fantastic in the NHL and Hamilton tearing up the OHL and the STANLEY CUP.
Somehow I think every Boston fan would make that trade 20 times over.

In fairness to Horton, Gleason gave him a crosscheck to the back (looked fairly light) to instigate the whole matter. Basically challenged Horton to fight and then went all limp when Horton responded.

Does go against the unwritten rule of goalies not messing with players and vice versa.
Can only imagine the outrage had the situation been reversed and it was Chara who sought out words with Ward who was minding his own business.

I only saw one period of the Bruins game last night but they sure looked flat. The Bruins need to realize that this year every team they play will be bringing their A game. You win the cup you wear the bullseye

Kinda like Harrison was minding his own business (just a little shoving with Horton) before Chara came barrelling in from the blue line to protect his clearly helpless winger (who a short time later would be throwing punches at a guy on the ground)?

And as a result he got off with just a sore noggin while Horton got a double minor, a misconduct, and a loss for his team. Who came off better?

Minding your own business doesn't often equate to roughing calls against you.
Also consider that Horton is recently concussed and as such deserves more protection from teammates.
And Horton never actually threw a punch in that mess... just continually shoved Gleason and ragdolled him. Never once did his hands leave Gleason's jersey to throw a punch.

HEY! There are two Canadian teams tonight. No complaining.

All I am saying was that Gleason instigated the matter. Pulled a Steve Ott. Pick a fight then look around everywhere for the refs to save you.
It was cowardly but effective.

Do any of the Boston papers like any of the Boston sports teams?
Nobody expects…

BTW, Hamilton is in the AHL not the OHL :)
And who cares about the A anyway?
The Kessel trade is not nearly as bad as many viewers/armchair GMs want to believe it was. Lets just acknowledge that OK?
[Shouldnt every thread be turned into a Leafs thread???]
