08:19 AM ET 10.20 | Jed Hoyer, who may or may not be headed out of San Diego, has reportedly had talks with closer Heath Bell's agent on a new contract, though Bell is not the only pitcher the Padres are talking about. Bell can become a free agent at the end of the World Series. The Padres have offered Bell a two-year contract with an option for a third season. Bell, who wishes to remain with the Padres, is seeking a three-year contract. ... The Padres have internally discussed the possibility of acquiring starting pitcher John Lackey from the Red Sox, if the Red Sox agree to eat most of Lackey's contract. Lackey formerly pitched for Bud Black when the Padres manager was the Angels' pitching coach.
