Negotiations with Hillis unravel

08:00 AM ET 10.21 | Another video game cover jinx? Browns President Mike Holmgren revealed Thursday that talks to extend Peyton Hillis' contract are at a standstill and that the team is set to let him become a free agent after the season. "I don't think anybody pushed anybody against the wall on contract talks and said, 'We're done,' but right now, it's kind of quiet," Holmgren said. "Let's let Peyton play, let the dust settle and see what happens." Holmgren indicated that the Browns are prepared to let Hillis become a free agent and then try to sign him on the open market. Another option would be to make him the franchise player, which would pay him the average of the top five players at his position for 2012 -- probably more than they would want to pay.

You could see this coming a few weeks ago.

He hasn't done anything this year to help his cause. He should have pulled a Chris Johnson....... holdout, get paid, then play like S^%T

How much leverage does he have in negotiating, when he's not even putting out on the field?

They can have him.

Blessing in disguise.

He definitely got the order mixed up. Start choking AFTER you get paid.

What happened to this guy? He was a beast last season. Is it just that defenses are keying on him more?

In order to do something they have to play him. Against the Titans he got 10 tries versus McCoy's 61 pass attempts!

I believe there are a couple reason why Hillis isn't having a good season. The first is Shurmur's game plan which is pass first and run second. You can't expect him to bust off 20-30 yards each rush when you give him limited attempts. The second is lack of blocking, last year he had Vickers clearing a path for him and this year it seams nobody is helping him get through the holes.

As for his contract, pay the guy and let him get on the field more! He has shown what he can do and without giving him that chance he's a waste of a talent.

He's the only big threat the Browns have - you stop him you stop the Browns

And what did that get them besides an old fashion beating

Anyone who sits out an NFL game because of a sore throat doesn't deserve a contract.

Ever since he switched his car insurance to Geico... it's just not the same
