Bulldogs banned from casino

Georgia coach Mark Richt has outlawed any casino gambling. Never mind that several players are 21 and can legally gamble. Or the fact that Harrah's Casino is a row of slot machines away from the front door of the team hotel. "We have always had a no-casino policy," Richt said. The players don't seem too distraught over not being able to contribute their per diem to the neon giant next door.

Way to go coach. Keep their minds on what is important.

We need more Coach Richts!!!!!!

December 27, 2007  10:00 AM ET

Is anyone surprised? This is a coach who actually prayed for his team to get into the title game. I guess the higher power loved LSU more.

"No Casinos" should be a no brainer. You are there to play football. Not gamble.

Football is gambling.

December 27, 2007  10:39 AM ET

Yeah, they need to focus on the run n shoot that they're about to square off against. Good idea.

Maybe they can gamble after the game is over?.. if they win!

December 27, 2007  10:40 AM ET

Well done on the coach for taking a stand and helping to keep his players focused on the task at hand - the game. He's no doubt aware that whilst gambling is a perfectly legitimate entertainment option, it can lead to issues for a small percentage of the population. Footballers with their high incomes can fall prey to the "gambling beast".

http://beatthecasinos.blogspot.com - if you are going to play, be prepared!

I thought about this fact last night...And I'am NOT saying the game is a gimme by any means...BUT..IF UGA beats Hawaii, won't UGA be the ONLY team in the country to play against and beat 2 of the top Heisman trophy players including the one that won it?
Therefore IF we win, should'nt that bump us up even higher in the polls?

December 27, 2007  11:48 AM ET

It might but do any rankings matter if you are not National Champ?

December 27, 2007  11:55 AM ET

in recruting it could..

December 27, 2007  12:58 PM ET

Final rankings help you in the preseason polls for next year. If you win almost all of your games as a preseason top team, then the voters should take care of you come selection time. If Georgia wins the Sugar Bowl, they could be as high as #3 heading into next season and would probably get the edge in title game selection.

LSU won the Sugar Bowl big last year while Oklahoma lost to Boise State in the Fiesta. It matters.

HAHAH Hawaii's fans don't even claim the "Rainbow"

December 27, 2007  04:49 PM ET

I don't think people think it's a foregone conclusion. Most college football fans remember Boise beating OU and WVU beating WVU the last time UGA was in the Sugar Bowl.

December 27, 2007  05:41 PM ET

Exactly..that is why I said "IF"...I respect Hawaii and their QB. UGA needs to be ready for them, cause they are ready for us...

The game is a not a gimme and Richt's doing the right thing by keeping the team focused.

Georgia's coach is a smart man. They will have their hands full with the run and shoot, and how accurately Colt runs the offense. They don't have the personnel on their scout team to simulate that offense. They had better have their track shoes on.

I can't wait to see the looks on the smug "analysts" faces afterwards, like Herbstreit and James.
