08:10 AM ET 10.24 | While many believe the Red Sox will run a tighter ship in 2012, Major League Baseball may step in to help them. [Joe Torre said Sunday night] that his office will look into the drinking that was going on during games in the Red Sox clubhouse this season. "It's something we're concerned about, just to make sure that we get all the facts and that's my area," Torre said. ... Jon Lester and Clay Buchholz have admitted to drinking during games with Josh Beckett and John Lackey admitting to unspecified mistakes that they made. Torre said there not yet any set plan for what MLB's investigation would entail. "It's something we're going to look at and find the best way to approach it, let's put it that way," he said.

Can someone remind me; just what exactly does Joe Torre do for MLB? Is he someone really important, or did he need a job so Bud made one up for him.
