Giants might take a swing at Sizemore

08:12 AM ET 10.24 | As the World Series is extended, so, too, is a bit of drama in Cleveland. Imagine Grady Sizemore patrolling center field for the Giants -- a healthy Grady Sizemore, that is. As he was when hitting .281 and averaging 27 homers and 29 steals over his first four full seasons (2005 to 2008). Knee issues have sidetracked his career, and he's about to become an ex-Indian. It could be worthwhile for a team to take a one-year flier on Sizemore, who hopes his Oct. 3 arthroscopic knee surgery will put him back in business. Within three days of the World Series' final out, several players could be free agents if their 2012 options aren't exercised.

I would be GLAD to see a "healthy" Grady Sizemore leave the Central... Buuuuut after these last few years, I doubt the "healthy" part...

Brilliant idea for the Giants. They should do this. For sure.

Hopefully he ends up on the Indians again next year. Vital piece of their puzzle.

Carlos Quentin will not be on the White Sox next year. Plus, Sizemore is in his own category of "fragile," not to be confused with Quentin's fragility.

An incentive-laden contract couldn't hurt. Might as well give it a shot.

Sizemore's days as a starter are over. He can't stay healty. He'd be better off as a 4th out fielder that plays 3 times a week.

After seeing Moneyball, I feel I can sign Sizemore to play for the Little League team I manage here on the south side. He'll have to bring pizza several times for the pizza parties the parents help throw after some of the games, but I'm sure we can work something out. All I care about is OBP and to a lesser extent, slugging.

Yeah, the Giants should go sign the healthy Grady Sizemore if they can find him. The one with the knee problems can go sign somewhere else.

So they want a center fielder for half a year? what will they do for the other half.

Oh Jesus, the guy is such an injury prone player. Why does every fragile player get sent to SF?

They aren't sent to SF, they're acquired by SF.

Why? Questionable management.

HA!

On another note. San Fransisco is already interested in Magglio Ordonez in RF and Carlos Guillen for Infield Statue...

I am a Grady fan (when healthy) but the fact is he hasn't been healthy in a couple years and the Indians don't have the luxury (i.e. Money) to gamble on him any longer.

I would love to see the Tribe make a splash and add a couple position players in the offseason but the reality is they are going to try to build from within and only make minimal moves in free agency. Its unfortunate because I believe this team has what it takes to compete with Detroit (again, when healthy) but ownership won't allow them to pull the trigger on adding another $20-30 million to their payroll.

The economics in Cleveland are in place for this team to do well right now. The Browns are in a slow rebuilding process (very slow) and the Cavs, well lets just say the NBA isn't going anywhere soon. So the fans in Cleveland need a team to support and this could be that team. They have already displayed their love for the Indians by selling out games when a competative team takes the field so what is stopping Dolan from pulling the trigger? The answer is: Dolan is running a business first and team second.

Another broken down 30 something to add to their roster. Bring him on, and sign Beltran also.
When both are on the DL next year, its the only chance that Sabean can hang himself. If Freddy Sanchez reinjures himself, Panda gains 30 pounds over the course of a season, Cain and Lincecum have ERA's under 2.00 and each only win 9 games, maybe management can make the necessary changes needed for this franchise to get back on track.

What is Hafners status?

He is personally Mr Glass of the Cleveland outfit...

Grady is just a higher profile player, but Hafner seemes to have dibbs on a DL spot every other week for the last 4 years...

The Giants obviously must have room on their Injured Reserve list.

Nice post.

I don't understand why the Giants' front office is wasting their pitching staff. They've got a nice window of opportunity with the pitching staff that they have, but that's not going to last forever.

You mentioned Cain and Lincecum's ERA and wins - I've got to imagine they're getting really sick of allowing a couple of runs and losing. If I were them I'd want to see the front office get some bats to score some runs or I'd be looking to leave town. And I'm not talking about hoping that Sandoval can hit all year, or that Beltran isn't broken, or that Belt will miraculously become a major league hitter, or that Posey will get back to his overrated self. I'm talking about real hitters. Like Pujols or Fielder.

Also, the fact that Giants fans even mention Freddy Garcia, a 34 year old with a career OPS of .748, with a straight face when talking about offense illustrates just how bad it's gotten.
