Ewing: Curry lacks NYC makeup

Knicks legend Patrick Ewing acknowledged last night that disintegrating Eddy Curry may not have the mental makeup to succeed in New York. Ewing, the Orlando assistant, understands more than anyone what it takes to prosper at the Garden. The "Big Fella" received more boos and catcalls than any Knick. "I don't know if he came into camp in shape or not," the likely Hall of Famer told The Post. "You have to have a strong mind to play in New York. Not too many people can play there."

It would also help if you bring some GAME with you, And go easy at the buffet table.

That's right even though Patrick never had a Ring, he worked his guts out just to carry the Knicks unlike these overpaid poor excuse for an "athlete".

Overpaid and still.....

How is a guy that big such a bad rebounder and shot blocker?

December 27, 2007  08:14 AM ET

if that guy could be ahlf decent rebounder and blocker with his offense....man.. oh man..the things he could do

December 27, 2007  08:47 AM ET

"How is a guy that big such a bad rebounder and shot blocker?"

Easy. When you combine a breathtaking lack of heart and conditioning (no pun intended), it isn't that hard for someone with his physical talents to be a bad defender and a bad rebounder.

If he would attack the basket like he does the buffet, then Curry could be a HOF someday too.

New Yorkers are smart and they know when a guy is short changing them like Curry does on a nightly basis. If you are going to play in New York, you got to give in your all and produce. Nothing less is accepted in NYC. Curry doesn't have the mental toughness or the heart to be there. Neither does Marbury and neither does Randolph.

Isiah deserves blame for bringing in high priced "talent" that lacks the heart to play the game the way NYC fans expect.

Curry is doing the same that he did here in Chicago. Eating and taking it easy and the Chicago fans and media were on his **** every night for it in spite of him being a local boy.
He was a bad draft pick for the Bulls that turned into a bad trade for the Knicks.

While watching the game yesterday i notice the MIN Isiah Thomas put Eddy Curry back in the game during the 3rd quarter the Knicks fell behind by 10 points, soon after that he was out of the game. He looks confused on Defense, his offense is lost, he lacks confidence, and anyone including myself (BTW I am only 5 feet 4 ) can drive to the lane and either lay it up or dunk it on him. Some of these players dont have any heart or passion. David Lee, Nate Robinson, Balkman,Fred Jones, and Malik Rose are the only Players in my Opinion that play with some type of heart and passion.

This whole thing is funny . . . . .i dont' know why New York fans expect so much from their teams. The Knicks have won what . . . .one championship in the 70's? You act like they have won 20 something like the yankees. They have the talent on the team, but they just don't have the heart to get it done in my opinion. I just don't understand how Isaiah can have a job still and scott skiles who just took his team to the playoffs last year get's fired . . . . .

December 27, 2007  09:40 AM ET

Eddie Curry is such a bad rebounder and defender because he does not care. He is a big lazy guy who as long as he gets his money could care less about being a winner.

I saw "bum" all in the guy when the bulls first drafted him. He is just another example of a guy with good athletic ability but the heart of a pea.

If he was my son I would of kicked him in the butt a long time ago for being such a big, weak lazy bum.

THE ONLY reason this guy is in the NBA is because he is big and can walk without falling on his face.

What a bum.

December 27, 2007  09:44 AM ET

the bulls traded chandler after they traded curry right? maybe it would be almost worth the two 1st rounders and w.e. else they gave the bulls for chandler instead of curry.

December 27, 2007  09:45 AM ET

Eddy Curry lacks desire. Rebounding is about effort and wanting the ball more then the other team. Curry just doesn't have that in him. The sad thing is he's only 25 and still has sometime to develop some type of game. But it's not looking good..

I'm sorry, but that's just an ugly picture.

December 27, 2007  10:18 AM ET

There was once a shoe commercial with a catch line that said, "a contract can make you rich, but only the love can make you a player." Curry plays as if he just doesn't care. We all know Isiah signs these underachievers based on potential, without ever looking into things like heart, courage, or drive. Potential without drive is worthless--but in his mind, he's successful because he's rich. When he goes back to the hood, noone cares that he was a failure-because he got paid. His Benz with the 22s gets him all the respect he needs.

Patrick Ewing; we didn't need to consult the psychic network for this information....Eddy Curry needs to be abused by the New York fans for his performance....Occasionally polling down an occasional rebound and blocking one shot per season doesn't cut it in Big man land...Fans deserve better and the biggest problem is his will to make himself into a great ball player..It doesn't exist....This is the zone when gutless folks like Boris Diaw, Kwame Brown and Eddy Curry hang out...This guy is so out of shape he makes Zach Randolph look healthly (well almost)...No heart, no desire (unless its for a between time-out snack), no fire, no nothing..just a 6'11, 300? lbs piece of nothing..Knicks are better off sending his overweight butt to Jenny Craig until he gets in reasonable shape and playing the few (I emphasize few) players that they have that want to play hard (David Lee, Balkman, Morris, etc.) As a side note, the rest of the world is geting tired of this Freak show crap from the Knicks..When is Dolan gonna wise up and send Thomas packing?

It's not that he's fat...Oliver Miller was a solid blocker, and he was as big as Bizzar from D-12. Curry is just a bum with a bad heart AND no heart at the same time.
