Colts to start fresh, keep Manning sidelined?

08:02 AM ET 10.26 | Does it make any sense to bring Peyton Manning back if or when he's healthy enough to play, and will there be a house-cleaning before we see him again? It's entirely possible owner Jim Irsay will decide he wants a new head coach. You'll hear all the popular names -- Jeff Fisher, Jon Gruden, Bill Cowher. Again, it might happen. Irsay might even decide to totally clean house and get rid of Bill Polian and Chris Polian. That would truly be dramatic. As for Manning, I agree it would make no sense to get him on the field in late December. Maybe there's a reason, but I can't grasp it. Aside from getting him hit a ton, the team can determine his readiness to play on the practice field.

Time for Polian to pack his bags.

Stupid not to put him on IR and be done with it

No, bring him back when they are 1-14. That would make a lot of sense.

It's simple....suck for Luck, then have Manning mentor Luck for a couple of seasons, and hire an interim HC and staff until Manning retires from playing and is ready to take over on the sidelines...

Exactly. The longer they keep him around, the longer this made-up drama continues.

I bet Manning is back on the field ten minutes after the docs clear him. They'll run him out there trying to salvage something of this year whether it makes sense or not. Peyton will want to get out there anyway, and he gets what he wants.

I'd love to see Jeff Fisher go there. He's effed up the Titans for 14 years. Let him mess up the Colts for a few.

Haven't we seen this same **** thread all season?

Yup, and we'll continue to see it the rest of the season, too.

They can't cut him if he's on IR. What? Cut Peyton Manning?

Mega hit on the cap, and he can't play, and he may not ever be able to play. Sooner or later, it's a business decision.

Word... I guess the situation is fluid.

If it were me, I'd go ahead and tank the season, and let Payton heal. No need on throwing off the suck for Luck contest.

Payton may be trade bait.

1 win?

*Looks to see if the Redskins play the Colts*

He HAS to come back to win a couple of games so the Dolphins will have the worst record!

Do the Colts play Miami this year? Betcha the game would end in a tie.

HOw sad is it that you are right? As much as I despise the Dolphins almost as much as the Cowboys it is somehow pathetic how low they have fallen. Two teams who have been major players in the NFL for decades and not a win between them

it all comes down to bad management, which includes poor personnel decisions.

October 26, 2011  09:09 AM ET

why didn't they just lump this story with the Miami coaching story......Cowher and Gruden to be the next coach......the rumors start here

If they cut him before next year they save $28 million of bonus money. I cannot find how much of that $90 million is guaranteed, but you sure cannot trade him at an average of $20+ mil a year coming his way with $69 million of that due the first three years.
Cap He## for any team.

Here is the crazy part: Polian never required Peyton Manning pass a physical before agreeing to that contract. How is that possible after all they knew at the end of last year? That alone should get the GM fired.
