Quade's chances slim, Francona not off table

08:10 AM ET 10.26 | The Cubs are a team in transition, and it's now a matter of just how much. Mike Quade has a chance to stay on the job in 2012, although it's a slim chance. [Theo Epstein] said he's only talked to the Cubs' 2011 manager on the telephone and will visit with him within the next week before deciding whether to keep him or replace him. ... It should not be presumed that Terry Francona is off the table. Listening to Epstein, it's clear he really values Francona's skills as a manager. The question is whether continuing to work with Francona -- assuming Francona would continue working for Epstein after he didn???t prevent him from being shoved aside in Boston -- would be the kind of change Epstein says he's coming to Chicago to find.

A team still needs the right combination of player and the Cubs don't have that yet.

You mean he runs like he's in an oil slick and doesn't want to slip?

Tito should wait for that cushy TV job that hopefully will be open after the WS when McCarver "retires".

Tito was damn good!

It's a tough decision. I think Epstein and Francona should talk it out over a six pack.

If I'm Theo, I spend the next year unloading what bad contracts I can and evaluating the scouts and minors. Let Quade have 2012 and then adress the manager after you've got the organization configured the way you want.

cubs got their new president, and soon they will get a new GM to make this franchise solid and fruitifull then they most continue with the next adjustments, the manager spot itsn't at the right level as quality and respectability its needed it seems the manager spot will need to be addressed, does the cubs have to replace quade and if so why?quade has a very passive approach in every game, he was hesitant quite a few times, usually he won't take the blame for any miscalculation, he its a good guy but the cubs will need a manager who itsn't afraid to go and play every game with aggresive attitude, cubs need to get a manager who its allways fired up not when he only win but when games are tight he should have the win and wise approach!!

October 26, 2011  10:56 AM ET

quade should be moved to another position, he could be bench coach, or thirdbase coach any where but the manager spot, he has proved that the manager spot its too big for him!!

October 26, 2011  10:57 AM ET

i got the feeling that this franchise will have great seasons in the near future!!

October 26, 2011  10:59 AM ET

francona could have a new job either in the tv show or in the cubs organization, who knows? anything could happen!!!!

I got two words for you, Mr. Epstein: Ryne Sandberg.

Agreed. Tito would be doing millions of fans a favor by getting McCarver to start doing something else. Like performing exorcisms in the broadcast booth.

Hehhehheh. Nice one. Still, with the right leadership (and eating some horrendous contracts) a smart manager/gm can turn most teams around, given time.
