Spartans land Kentucky recruit

Draymond Green liked the idea of possibly going to the 2009 Final Four as a freshman and playing in front of a national audience less than two hours from home. With the top-ranked classes that Michigan State coach Tom Izzo could bring to East Lansing over the next two years, an appearance in the 2009 Final Four at Ford Field in downtown Detroit is a strong possibility for the Spartans -- and Green wants to be there with them. Green initially committed to Kentucky, but decided to consider other schools after coach Tubby Smith left for Minnesota.

Good for State. Hope you guys play well this year. You look like you have a great team. Love that guard you have.

He should have sticked with Tubby and went to Minnesota...he's building something there is gopher country. Michigan State was a good choice to!!!

this is reallllly old news. this actually happened over the summer

December 28, 2007  01:40 PM ET

No, this isn't reallllllly old news. Green held a press conference on Thursday, 12/27 to announce that he'll be a Spartan.

December 28, 2007  03:22 PM ET

Context: I'm a Gopher fan - granted, Tubby has a ways to go with the squad. It looks like he's had a good start, though, and one of the things I look forward to is seeing how he matches up with (IMO) the best current Big 10 hoops coach (Izzo) over the next few years. I'm hoping Tubby can pass him quickly, but Izzo knows what he's doing; this kid picked a good school to replace Kentucky.

Did somebody just pull a gun on Tom Izzo?

December 29, 2007  12:42 AM ET

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BIG TEN!

December 29, 2007  03:21 PM ET

this realllllllly is old news because green held a press conference over the summer in saginaw where his high school his which is also where i live and he announced **** play for the spartans. it was a big deal here. he may have just signed his letter of intent but hes been a verbal since the summer

December 29, 2007  07:17 PM ET

Verbals and LOI's are two different things. Ask Alex Legion.

December 29, 2007  10:49 PM ET

dude why are you being such an **** about this? the majority of the time players do go where they give their verbals. Alex Legion was a different case because there was a coaching change. sure doesnt look like Izzo's going anywhere does it?

December 31, 2007  06:46 PM ET

The Legion comment was a joke. Smile! Izzo is.

Now, girls...

January 4, 2008  01:58 AM ET

One recruit doesn't make or break a team, but it seems that luck is continiouslly spitting in UK face.

January 7, 2008  10:26 PM ET

LUCK? Ky signed this so-called "good" coach. Tubby was winning with most of these players

Coach Izzo seems to be a pretty good guy, at least from what the internet and TV interviews and comments portray. I'm happy for him since I think it was disgraceful the way Kentuck fans ousted Tubby with jeers instead of cheers. That said, I agree that the kid should have given strong consideration to MINN - after all, he could have been instrumental in reshaping MINN's fortunes. Just my two cents ...
