08:19 AM ET 10.26 | Big East football is facing perhaps its most most important week yet. When West Virginia's departure to the Big 12 becomes official, the Big East will have only five teams, including only one original member, Rutgers. What happens over the next week will determine whether the league will survive or divide. While the league has appeared to hit rock bottom with the loss of Syracuse, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Texas Christian, there are still embers of hope for survival. While no official announcement has been set, a West Virginia official said Tuesday the program "has applied" and "are accepted" to the Big 12, and the departure from the Big East is "solid."
