Boston GM wants more of Tuukka, too

08:24 AM ET 10.26 | What ever happened to that plan where Tuukka Rask would see more action, especially early? Rask has started just two games this season, allowing one goal to Avalanche in the B's 1-0 loss in the third game of the season, and allowing four goals last Tuesday against the Hurricanes. As was the case last season, Tim Thomas has been the No. 1 guy by a large margin as far as starts goes. "In fairness to Tuukka, he probably should have gotten another start here or there, but you see Tim, how he's playing, and you want him to recapture some of the stuff that he had last year," Chiarelli said. ... "I think in the end you'll see it go into line with what he originally put out there."

"Thomas playing more than Boston wanted early"

You can't blame someone on another team for that one, Peter.

Doesn't seem that hard to me.

Sit Timmy, Sit!

I dunno man. You gottta ride the hot goalie. If your starter is playing well and he isn't tired, then there it is. You don't play the back-up just for the sake of playing him.

I know it's not a huge deal because it's early in the season, but sometimes the extra couple points you get early on can make the difference between 8th and 9th or 4th and 5th seeds. Ride the hot goalie and be thankful you have such an able back up when it's time.

Whats the big deal here? Timmy is only signed for one more year and Rask is the future. A good gm/coach tandem should be able to navigate this with ease. Its not like Thomas is signed for another 20 years like ole whats his name.

It's kind of a blessing and a curse to be in this situation. Nice to have a backup who would be a starter on every other team, but Rask has to be getting antsy to be a starter. And, Boston doesn't have any real holes they need to fill, so it's not like they would want to trade either one. We'll see if Julien can keep them both happy this year.

Well, Pete, you can't get more from someone sitting on the bench all the time.

Tuukka is the future, but Thomas is the present. One could argue that Thomas is the main reason Rask has a ring on his finger. Plus Thomas > Rask.

Toskala made a great backup too...then he became a starter. Whole different hockey game.
