Why Avery can't stand Toronto

Rangers forward Sean Avery hardly considers a game in Toronto a homecoming. Avery grew up in Pickering, Ontario, on Toronto's outskirts, but he harbors little love for what he left behind. "I never enjoy playing in Toronto really," Avery said after the Rangers practiced Thursday in preparation for Saturday's game against the Maple Leafs at the Air Canada Center. "Why? I don't enjoy hockey-obsessed Canadians. The exchange rate is not very good right now. And it's going to cost me a lot of money for tickets for people I don't even like. How's that for a list"

Here we have the grinch who stole christmas.i,ll just bet people are lining up to get tickets from him, to be on his "buddy list".probably needs to save all his dough for his scheduled brain transplant.
is it too much to ask of ask of this guy, to just shut his mouth, and play hockey. There are times when he,s actually decent at it.

December 28, 2007  08:54 AM ET

The guy is a card...I got a chuckle.

December 28, 2007  09:07 AM ET

i think he could be a force in the league if he didn't act like a 16 year old bad **** from da bronx

December 28, 2007  09:08 AM ET

Sounds to me like his Christmas Card list just got a lot shorter for next year.

Honestly, I like the guy. I think he is good for the game. I love how he uses the media as well. Personally, I am sick of all the usual cookie cutter statements you here athletes make day in and day out when addressing the media. At least with guys like Avery and Roenick, you know you are going to get some good material.

I think you'll have a hard time finding too many rangers fans who don't like Avery, personally, I think he adds an edge to a team that's needed it for awhile. And you know, he could shut his mouth and play hockey, but it would make him so much less effective.

Is this guy kidding or is he really that big of a jerk? Oh, and the comment for the Pats to go back to the old logo is dead on correct. Their current uniforms are hideous and make them look like clowns

December 28, 2007  11:15 AM ET

He's kidding

December 28, 2007  11:28 AM ET

Way to stir the pot ! Should be a decent game , the fans will be all over Avery as expected by his comments , I assume by his design ! However , he's still an a**clown tho . LOL

I hope Tucker and Avery get into it during the pregame skate again. Watching those two chirp at each other makes for pretty good entertainment.

December 28, 2007  11:48 AM ET

I can't wait to see what he says about French Canadians. again.

December 28, 2007  11:56 AM ET

Probably nothing , seeing that they are'nt playing in Montreal . . . . Not all Canadians are french

December 28, 2007  11:58 AM ET

Didn't he call them out for taking runs at guys and then hiding behind a visor...

December 28, 2007  12:00 PM ET

LOL . . . .Avery's still mad about Gauthier smashing the crap out of him LOL . . .man the Flyers need to have him back on the roster

December 28, 2007  12:02 PM ET

Was that when Denni Gauthier played for the flames????

December 28, 2007  12:05 PM ET

Yup ! smashed and banged him up night in and night out when Avery played for LA

December 28, 2007  12:11 PM ET

I remember those days. Avery had his hands full in LA. At least in NY he has guys like Orr to help him out.

I like Denni Gauthier. For a french-canadian, he plays a physical game.

I like Avery. He's just telling us how it is.
