Beltran taking over for Swisher?

08:12 AM ET 10.28 | Carlos Beltran back in New York? Not long ago, it was considered a slam-dunk that the Yankees would pick up Nick Swisher's $10.25 million option for 2012, despite another miserable postseason performance. Now, it's not so clear. The reason? Carlos Beltran, a free agent after seven up-and-down, and mostly down, seasons with the Mets. Beltran is being shopped hard by his agent, Scott Boras, and his name came up in discussions at the Yankees organizational meeting in Tampa on Wednesday. "He's on our list," said a team official who was present at the meeting. "But we have to make a decision on Swisher first." That is an ominous sign for Swisher and his agent, Dan Lozano.

So you go from a clutch hitter in Swisher to a player that struggles in the same situations? It's going to be a tough year for Yankee fans.

You know when Boras's name is involved stories will come out how every team out there wants Beltran and what kind of a hot commodity he is.

Let it play out. If, and I do not think they have yet, pick up Swishers option, there is no guarantee it is with the intention of keeping him. He can block a trade up to a maximum of six teams, but he can be traded.
Obviously the Yankees have no long term interest in Swisher or they would extend his contract now, and that is not even a consideration.
Beltran is a better player and it is not that close to even discuss.

I agree with you except Beltran can't stay off the DL. If it's a cheap contract with lots of incentives then maybe.

Where did you read they picked up Swisher's option?

I would think the Red Sox would also be in the mix as a replacement for Drew. With those 2 teams involved, it's only gonna put more money in Boras's pocket.

Wrong. And not even close. Beltran, in 22 post season games, has batted .366 with 11 home runs and 19 rbi. Swisher is the poster child for post season failure.
Beltran , even with games missed, betters Swisher offensively and is a better defender than Swisher ever thought of being.
It is not about talent, Beltran wins, it is about age I suspect.

After barkeep made me 2 Winehouses's yesterday, a little unsteady.
Other than that, fine. Waiting to hear when they schedule the surgery.

You would think the Sox would go with that kid that played pretty well and is a cheaper option.

He will have quite a few teams calling. As far as injury? BS, he played 142 games this year and 161 in 2008. It happens, but this is not a pitcher we are talking about and not the kind of injuries that affect his hitting.
