Miami will begin next season without any quarterbacks who have thrown a pass in a college football game. Kirby Freeman, the only returning veteran from the Hurricanes' 5-7 season, has requested a release from his scholarship, according to multiple UM sources, and is looking to possibly transfer to a school closer to home in Texas. He is expected to be granted the release.

Wow! Miami keeps falling... and falling... and falling...

December 28, 2007  07:40 AM ET

At this rate, in a few years when we hear Miami our 1st thought will be Miami of Ohio.

Jumping ship from a sinking ship, makes sense to me. Why torture yourself?

December 28, 2007  09:15 AM ET

This is GREAT news for the Canes. No more Wright and Freeman! Canes fans are rejoicing everywhere (believe me).

The real reason he is leaving is because he has no chance of starting next year. Miami has some great recruits coming in (including the #9 QB in the nation from Miami Northwestern). Plus they have "Mr. Football Florida" from 2006 who has been working hard in the offseason. Freeman saw the writing on the wall and that is why he is "jumping ship." In two years the Canes will be back in the national title picture.

dolphins13 You are right Freeman knew he would not be the starter with a healthy Marve coming in and he could possibly be a third string senior. He has had several opportunities to lead the team and has failed. Everyone said he had potential, but he never lived up to it. I am so glad that we now can move on and start fresh. Maybe he will be better at Texas Tech or Baylor where the expectations won''t be so high.

this is very good news for miami, now marve and harris can battle it out for the starting quarterback and we could use them both in the game alternating them depending on the situation.

this guy went 1 for 14 with 3 interceptions against nc state...how is it bad for miami that hes leaving?

Kirby is a good player, where ever he goes I think he will be successful but for miami they are in no way lacking quarterbacks. With a new crop of athletes and new coaching miami is bouncing back from the Coker-fall. Coming in are some young talented QBs - Jacory Harris, Taylor Cook, Robert Marve as well as excellent receivers and young running backs. And with the revitalization at the LB position I think Miami is looking quite strong for the coming years.

I wouldn;t worry about Miami they will find a couple of local blue chips to come in and take over Freeman wasn't all that good anyways so toss him to the curb. if he knew he was any good he'd stay in a top level program but to be honest only the 80's Miami QB's(Kelly, Kosar, and Testeverde) did anything in any level of football the others that won heisman's (Torretta..etc etc.) never did crap in pro ball. Then you get guys like Berlin, Wright, Freeman, Covington, Dorsey, Walsh, and Erickson who were sub par in college and definitely not good enough to even be in the NFL

Eh? Mr. Sunshine, now all of a sudden Hawaii is a powerhouse football team? From the WAC?.....LOL

Freeman was awful, Wright was terrible, so therefore he needed to roll!

Dolphin13 hit it right on the target,

LOL!! Wow, the first bunch of posters here are as ignorant as they come. You clearly know NOTHING about the Miami program!

Freeman is (and was) TERRIBLE!!! We are thrilled he is leaving. We have a fresh (Robert Marve) who's gonna take the reigns with a few big QB recruits coming in.

"The U keeps falling.... Miami of Ohio" Baaaaaaaaaahahahahah!! You'll be bowin down to the Orange and Green (and hatin it!!) very soon, just like you have been for the last 2 decades.

Have some knowledge before you flap your lips, you're making yourselves look like idiots.

December 30, 2007  02:21 AM ET

Uh, speaking of idiots, what was the U's record this year? And last year? And the year before that?

December 30, 2007  02:22 AM ET

And Hawaii will have at least two, and maybe three QBs next year who would start at Miami.

December 30, 2007  08:12 PM ET

Juice Boy spews his ignorance again... I love it!

Hawaii is a joke. They haven't beaten a ranked team, what, ever? They went undefeated on a schedule half the nation could have rolled through. What does that prove? Exactly, enough said.

I know you LOVVVVVVE hatin' on the Canes and kickin 'em while they're down. I don't blame you, we've straight dominated the sport for over twenty years.

Last season's record (which you so eagerly flaunt) is the end result of Larry Coker's mess. We have a new coach, new momentum, and one of the top classes coming in next year. 08 will bring growing pains, but by 09 we'll be dominating the college landscape once again.

Kick 'em while they're down, bud, you won't have many more chances.

Loved by few, hated by many, respected by all. THE U!

Hawaii is a dominating the football world.....LOL

Perhaps on your kids XBOX 360.....lol

Coker is gone thats a good thing. Never like it when the head man fires a bunch of assistants but saves his own hide.
