09:15 AM ET 10.29 | After a gutting loss to USC, Brian Kelly vowed his Notre Dame team wouldn't like him very much this week. He named names for individual accountability. Arduous practices ran long, including one in which he made the Irish repeat every period he found unsatisfactory. Then, in post-practice comments Thursday, Kelly drove a wedge between the players he recruited and the players he inherited - comments that inspired angry public replies from some players and had more fuming in private, multiple sources close to the team told the Tribune. With emotions piqued on the eve of a can't-lose game against Navy, Kelly and the Irish aired concerns during the usual Friday team meeting - a gathering that included Kelly apologizing to his players, a source close to the team confirmed.

Kelly must learn when to keep his mouth shut!!! I still think he will be a good coach in the long run.

Early on the left coast OT?

Well he is human and we all get our belly full sometimes. However, IMHO, a good player a.s.s chewing (excuse me...scolding for those PC) when they have it coming is fine and actually required to improve players and teams. Just spouting off/blowing up randomly is not really coaching or teaching. Vent somewhere besides the locker room/practice field coach. You'll get better results and won't have to apologize. Again,JMO

At Cincinnati Kelley inherited good players who were well coached. He will have to work harder at ND to get what he wants. For a guy who his dad was a politician, he did not learn much about public speaking it would seem.

Another messed up coach at Notre Dame. Just doesn't know how to handle the pressure at a big football school. Michigan got rid of Rodriguez because he couldn't handle Michigan pressure and never really understood the culture. As long as Michigan kicks Notre Dames but, and they will, I will be reasonably happy. Keep Kelly, and Michigan will always beat Notre Dame.
