10:29 AM ET 10.29 | NASCAR is looking at further changes in order to reduce the amount of two-car drafting in time for the 2012 Daytona 500, sources close to the situation said Thursday. NASCAR has made two changes designed to affect drafting at Sunday's race at Talladega Superspeedway, enlarging the size of the restrictor plate hole to increase speed and adjusting the pop-off valve in the cooling system to increase the threat of overheating. However, the changes did not work as hoped and the two-car draft received harsh criticism from fans and caused controversy among teams.

Get rid of the restrictor plates and let them race. I'm not watching anymore parades at Daytona or Talledega.

NASCAR talk is about a Smaller Spoiler which make the Air on the back car Dirtier, hard to Hook Up ... but then that could make even harder to Draft as a Pack of cars ...

Held Cup practice session, after Qualifying was RAIN out. .. Lineup set by Points.

And good old short track rubbing ;-) ...

#16 Biffle and #29 Harvick made contact with each other on the track.
First, Biffle ran into the back of Harvick on the straight stretch and then Harvick bumped Biffle in the turn. After both drivers came back to the garage, Biffle walked to Harvick's garage stall to talk. A group of crew members swarmed them but no punches were exchanged by anyone.

interesting idea, but they wont because the cars fly when they get turned around at those speeds

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s days of riding around at the back of restrictor-plate races are over.

NASCAR's most popular driver said he and drafting partner Jimmie Johnson learned their lesson last weekend at Talladega Superspeedway, where the Hendrick Motorsports teammates hung out in the back for much of the race, hoping to sprint to the front at the end. But three cautions in the final 20 laps derailed that plan, and the two were resigned to mediocre finishes for the second consecutive plate race.

Give 'em three inches of board -- let the teams figure out the angle they want to run ... get rid of the damn restrictor plates ... run the tail pipes out the rear ... have at it boys, or should I say have at it men cuz' the boys will get the hell out of the way !!!

yep, i've been going nuts the last 2 restrictor plate races with the 48/88 tandem.. you CANNOT wait until 20 laps to go to make your move.. 40 is the minimum..

October 29, 2011  05:23 PM ET

I have a few questions. If you get rid of the restrictor plate, what kind of racing will it be? I know they will go much faster, but won't it be kinda like a 1.5 racing? Like california but faster, and spread out? Im not being smart, Im just asking.. If that's the case, I would take how daytona and talladega used to be. I know its just 2 lines of cars, but it was still exciting.. Way more than this 2 car crap.

And two car tandems are flawed right from the start since they start 43 cars for a race.

Some poor odd man out is sucking the hind one before the race even starts...
